I saw someone mention trolling spoons behind Luhr-Jensen jet divers. I normally will not use spoons because they twist my line. With the jet diver, I only used 6 feet of mono. And the diver delivered the spoon to 20 or 30 feet deep. I used a blue/white little cleo.

The setup seemed a little clumsy. But I have a long 8'6" rod that is pretty stiff. I brought it just for this rig.

I made a few passes and was about to switch to a taildancer. Then... I caught a lake trout. We trolled taildancers and the spoons/divers. The spoons caught nearly all the trout.

I just bought a few more...

I like jet divers a lot. They present your spoon (or light-pulling crankbait, e.g. an original floating rapala) right in the depth you want, and they backup and float quickly, which helps a ton with snags.

The downside is tying many knots and it's a bit awkward to land fish with the leader between the diver and your lure; I'm sure you noticed that.

Little Cleos are great, but you may also want to try Sutton spoons or other flutter spoons. Those spoons are too light to troll without some sort of weight or diver - they are tailor-made for trolling with jet divers.

An alternative to the Jet Diver is a Davis Instruments Fish Seeker. It has multiple attachment points, so the same diver can run from 5-80' down (I can't imagine the pull at the 80' setting!). I like the Fish Seekers when I'm trying to dial in my trolling depth.

You need to go slower with Fish Seekers, and they don't float, so snags are more difficult. If I know a Jet Diver will hit the depth I want, I like the Jet Diver better, but it's tough to beat the Fish Seeker for quickly changing the running depth of your spoon.

these look interesting! which depth are you running? the adjustability of the fish seeker would be nice but it doesn't seem to get as good of reviews.

I've never experimented with the jet divers but I've had a lot of success pulling the size 45 Walker Deeper Diver . While we've had some success pulling the deep diving crankbaits we've done way better with spoons. It takes a stiff rod and a good reel to use these but I love being able to let out a set amount of line and troll flutter spoons in 20' of water.
