Anyone else notice a decline in the quality of ziplocks? I seem to remember some years back that ziplocks were somewhat bomb proof, in fact I used to save them and use them on multiple trips. Now they don't seem to be worth a darn. Mostly seems like the bag itself is bad, not necessarily the closure. Tried Hefty too, and those weren't much better. Seems like the seal was bad on those.

You have to get the freezer or heavy duty bags to get more than a couple uses out of them.

Yeah I always get the freezer bags for trips. Just last weekend had one bust open in the food bag and spilled pasta all over. Quart ziplock freezer bag. Brand new. Seam split.

I had one leak a freezer-bag meal into a cozy years ago and haven't used them for that since. I use a heavier (5-mil) one designed for adding boiling water. I have also found that they will get water in them if sitting in it in the cooler, so don't trust them for more than incidental protection for things that don't have to stay totally dry. I haven't had one of the freezer bags split like you are talking about, but I bag my trail mix in daily portions in snack bags, then a freezer bag. I always carry a couple of extra freezer bags with me. I also reuse.

We have been using the generic freezer bag ones from Aldis for the past 15 yrs and have never had a problem with them leaking or breaking. We use them a lot for FBC meals.

Pack-it Gourmet sells boil-in-the-bag bags and ones that you can add boiling water to. They have flat bottoms. They have 3 sizes. The prices aren't bad but shipping is a consideration.

Those are the ones I use, too.

You need to get the freezer ones made by Ziplock not generic ones made for a lunch box sandwich.

Yes, I always get freezer bags. Like I said a few comments up.

There must be a supplier for quality bags somewhere. Twice in the last 2 years my wife needed daily injections of an antibiotic and the bags that the medicine came in were really top quality. I saved them and use them on my Quetico trips.

I steer away from the ones that have that zipper thing. I individually package into those cheap snack bags then put on the bigger zipper. I've not had a problem that wasn't human error.

Yes, absolutely noticed the Ziploc quality decline...weak spot for me seems to be the sides of the zipper.

Target's version seems to make a point of melting that weld inward an eighth of an inch on each side, and I have had better luck with them.
