      Recommend a map case?

Hello,

I just ordered some Mckenzie maps for my upcoming trip.

Can someone recommend a map case they are happy with? I see that seal line makes them as well as NRS.

I am looking for something standalone that is not built into a bag/pack.

We use the Sealline brand ones. They seal up well and attach to a pack with a small key chain carabineer. Plus come in several sizes. We have the medium size ones I believe.

I've had a SealLine for about 15 years and been happy with it. I put carabiners on two corners and attach to my pack. I keep my maps, compass, notes, pens, permit, notebook in there. Sea-to-Summit also makes some.

Sea to Summit user here. It has really held up well through out the trips.

I've also had a SealLine for several years. I just use one carabiner to clip it to my pack while portaging and lay in on the floor of the canoe in front of me while we're paddling.

I just used for the first time my CCS Pathfinder Thwart Bag. It keeps your maps dry and visible while paddling.

What movington and ParkerMag said.

I also have a Sealline map case. It works really well, too. The beauty of the Pathfinder Thwart Bag is the storage pouch and the map is always visible. Just depends on your needs.

I have the NRS HYDROLOCK and it has worked well. I've had it for probably 7-8 years and it has never leaked.

Thanks for sharing your experience. Seems like there are plenty of reasonable choices out there.

I'd just add that it's nice if both sides of the map case are clear. Can either display two different maps, or extend the time between needed to refold/reposition a map.

I use a 1 gallon zip lock bag. Price is right.

+1

Another miser here. Zip Lock bags have worked will for me over the years. Never an issue.

The medium SealLine HP map case will take a folded McKenzie map beautifully, it's clear on both sides and you can wear it around your neck when you portage. I absolutely love this thing.

i have a hooligan map case. it's well made.
but its one of those things i recommend buying in person. the zip lock parts if creased, in shipping, will never be right again.

then i would put everything in zip locks inside. your map cases./

Me too. I even poke a hole to put a carabiner through it, and throw my compass inside the bag as well. The maps are all waterproof, so a little moisture getting in through the carabiner hole has never been an issue.

Thanks again. I see that the low cost route is just a gallon zip lock which I already have in stock and use. Maybe I can put off this expense until a later date.

I finally adopted this system by slipping the ziplock inside my REI map case. Maps stayed dry the entire duration of my trip.
