Dividing up Trail Center Camp Chow meals?

I recently purchased several Camp Chow meals at Trail Center. Most are meals for 2, a couple are for 4.

I'm wanting to divide them up to use for solo meals and am currently experimenting with super mixing them up and dividing them into single packs for my upcoming trip.

Has anyone tried this with success or no success? I have some green bean casserole on the stove now hoping for the best.

Any tips or thoughts greatly appreciated

I would suggest that you separate the larger pieces from the powdery stuff and than divide each and recombine them. If there is pasta or rice, try and separate that out, too before dividing.

I personally use a combination of singles and 2 person on a solo(usually ten days). I start out using singles and start using 2 person later in the trip when I start to feel the effects of using more calories than I consume. I fix a two person meal late in the afternoon and eat half and be ready for the other half before the end of the day.

Exactly what Sedges said......
I divide each item as best I can - I use both weight and volume measurments.
I have divided pre-done grocery store meals (Hamburger Helper, Knors Sides, etc.) with good success and then add my own dehydrated beef or a pouch of tuna or chicken.

I regularly divide up multi serving meals. You can get obsessive, but I just dump the contents on a breadboard and split into the size desired with a spatula. Put the results in a vacuum bag and seal. Works for me, and gives the opportunity to add som extra ingredients if I desire.

I'm with Ken, I simply dump the meal on the countertop, sort of square up the pile divide in half with a knife and slide the haves into ziplock bags , label the bag and write how much water to add.. FRED

i haven't done dividing commercial yet, but for packaging my own I purchased a bag of those little silica gel packs (desiccant) to help suck out moisture. I got a bag of 100 for about 9 clams on Amazon. Most commercial food packs include them. I like the little extra reassurance, especially with something like dried hamburger. Remember: do not consume;)

I regularly divide up prepackaged meals for my solo trips. The 2 and 4 person meals are much easier to find and they are much more cost effective. I pour the contents into a large bowl and evenly divide the powder, noodles, rice, veggies, protein, etc. I then use these bags from Packit Gourmet to repackage a single serving. Cook-In Bags

That's what I did for my first solo with Mountain House 2 serving meals. Now I only get the single serve from Camp Chow for my solo trips.

Ken - Fred - You guys are just not OCD enough - I feel compelled to measure down to the tenth of an ounce to divide meals. After all - how will you know they are " equal"?

I just make up the slack with pine needles, ash, and dead bugs (ate enough live ones to have formed a preference).

why divide the 2 person serving? you should probably eat the entire amount so you get enough calories and nutrients in for the day.

perhaps Sarah at TC would let you exchange the 4person servings for 2person or singles?

I want to try a few Camp Chow meals this year. Do i need to order them in advance? Can I pick them up at TC? I'll be dining their the night before entry anyway. Since I am flying into MN with all of my equipment I would like to pick up as much of the food supplies as I can between the Twin Cities and the Gunflint Trail since I am limited on space and weight.

Easiest thing would be to just pick them up at Trail Center. They have a huge selection.

Have a great trip!

Thanks One Match. Wasn't sure if they stocked them or produced to order. I can't bear to look at the selections this time of night because they make me hungry!

What onematch said............ they have a good selection in the store.

The selection does start to dwindle as you get later into the year though. I think Sarah doesn't want a lot of it left over heading into the winter??? We are there every year in Oct. and there is a lot less to choose from than there is during the summer months.
