My wife and I are looking for a cabin stay late September anywhere near the East side of the BWCA. Would prefer some seclusion and good fishing opportunities within a short drive. We'd like the cabin for a few nights and will pitch a tent for the rest, the grand bargain.
We stayed at Little Ollie last year and loved it. Any other spots along the Gunflint/Arrowhead or in the area that fit a similar bill?

quote DeanL: "The 2 cabins at The Trail Center might be tough to get but they are amazing!"
+1 my wife and I stayed there 2 years ago for an anniversary getaway and we liked it so much that later this month we are bringing the ducklings there for a family stay. We liked that there are only 2 cabins vs a resort w/ a bunch of cabins. Cabin #2 is about 20 feet from the water. Cool little cabins that are very well taken care of.
For 2 people it's only like $140/night. Much cheaper than most of the places along the trail. AND.... all you need to do is walk up the hill to eat at the best restaurant in the world.
When we stayed at Trail Center our final 2 choices were Little Ollie and Trail Center. A friend from this messageboard had stayed at both places before and liked them both. The main point that led us to the Trail Center was that the cabin was right on the waters edge.
Rockwood Lodge is another good option. We have not stayed in one of their cabins but have used their bunkhouse many times before/after bwca trips. They are great people.
If you want to get closer to the end of the Trail for new territory Tuscarora Lodge is also a good option. They have a couple options that are close in price to Little Ollie, Trail Center, and Rockwood. With 3 entry points right there you have good options for daytrip paddles and the Centennial Hiking Trail is a good one that you can access right from there.

Hungry Jack Outfitters has two cabins for rent on Hungry Jack lake. We've stayed in Cabin # 1 several times in Sept. and once in Aug. The cabins are right on the water, one on each side of the peninsula. A boat is included, the lake is very quiet and the owners Dave & Nancy are very helpful, but unobtrusive. Trail Center is just 2 miles down their road and the hiking trails are nearby.

Haven't stayed there but it looks like our kind of place. After looking at it again now I remembered it was the "no dogs" part that eliminated it for us. The Caribou Rock Trail right by there is one of my favorites.

Thanks again for the great suggestions everyone. We've been wanting to stay at the TC but you're right, it's hard to find a slot. Hungry Jack is a strong possibility, we've been on the lake but only for a day. Feels pretty peaceful back in there.
Clearwater Lodge is beautiful indeed but we're looking for a little more solitude. Definitely one of the most beautiful lakes I've ever seen, I drool every time I see those properties along the shore.
