I was thinking of a trip for the fishing opener next spring. One post mentioned that the opener can be crowded.

Is it really crowded?
It seems that it would be too cold for really large numbers of folks to be going.

What sort of lakes to folks target? Easy lakes? Walleye lakes?

i havent notice that , its 1 reason why i do openers in the BW , but i'll say this , a entry point lake like seagull this past opener , there were a few and then come that monday we basically had all of seagull to ourselves.
my 2 favorite BW lakes for opener is seagull & knife.

I was actually thinking of Seagull. I usually do Seagull and/or Alpine for Memorial Day. Next spring, I'll have to move to the opener because Memorial Day is too close to a daughters graduation party.

Seagull is nice because it is so big and there are no portages. This last spring, we triple portaged. But we had a winter sleeping bags, an 8-man kifaru tipi, and a kifaru wood stove. It was pretty cool to hang out in a warm, dry tipi while it was cold and raining outside.

i've done many trips from seagull to the SAK and IMO seagull is the 2nd best fishery , in that route , very good lake trout fishing. but like i tell everyone watch the wind/waves when you hit the open west side. we,ve done very good on jasper for lake trout too , but there almost all in the #2-#3 range. which is great eating.

I'm with shock all the way when it comes to Seagull. Every opener I make on Seagull I see the same groups heading in. We each have our favorite camp sites. Once in we never encounter each other again.

I remember the openers in New England for the trout season... Kind of like the salmon runs in Alaska... Count me out.
