I have been going to Quetico since the mid '70s, but am just now getting into fishing seriously. Most of our trips have been focused on traveling and the group schedule did not leave much time for fishing at peak times. It seams like breakfast and dinner were always at the time I wanted to fish.

The last few years the scouts have decided that fresh fish tastes much better than Mountain House and are supporting my fishing activities. I have been teaching at least one of the to fish every year.

This year we are putting in at PP on 7/24 and Sunday to Silence, base camping on Agnes for 3 days and coming back down Agnes and out through Meadow, Sunday, North Bay. The group is 3 adults ( ages 50-68) and four senior scouts (ages 15-18). All of the adults have experience. The oldest will be celebrating his 50th trip to Quetico. None of the Scouts have ever been on a canoe trip. We are planning on a very leisurely trip with lots of time for fishing.

I am considering going through Anchor Lake just to see some new territory. It would be where we camp the first night. I am concerned about the portages and was wondering if you had been that way recently.

Thanks for any advice the group can share.

I went from North Bay to Sunday Lk. in 2015. It's an adventure for sure. If on the wet side be prepared to portage in mucky conditions skirting the creek. My 17 year old nephew had a full length hiking boot come off in 1-2 feet of boot sucking beaver barf.

Also, don't try the tiny creek that goes along the way there unless you enjoy this kind of activity.

Good luck!

Your route is not quite clear. Sunday to Silence (via Anchor and the S-chain?).
Anchor is nice but route between Sunday and Anchor can be tricky. I paddled the swamp between the lakes but it was difficult, never did find the long portage around it. Anchor to North Bay much more straight forward. Long portage with lots of corduroy into North Bay. Camp on Anchor is decent might be a bit cramped with party of your size. If you return through Meadow and Sunday, North Bay is a bit of a detour. If you want to visit North Bay on the way out better to leave Agnes via East, West and South Lakes.

West lake is a favorite. Good smallie habitat with some lakers thrown in. The largemouth fishing in the unnamed small lake next to it can be rather good. It can be found by listening for a small inflow and then scouting the shore for the break. A hop, skip and a jump and your in.

I like the campsite near the portage to East.
