I've been absent for quite a while due to work and life in general. Unfortunately, I missed out on my yearly trip last September. On a brighter note, my friends were able to spend a week off of the Gunflint Trail and had a blast, courtesy of my mad research and logistical skills. (Heavy on the humor.) My life has slowed down a bit this year and I will be able to make our September trip. We are putting in on September 21st at EP 25, Moose Lake and making the death march to Knife Lake, near the Sema Lake portage, where we will base camp until the 29th when we return to Ely. My reasoning for this location is that we will be close to the four main species we pursue. At least that is what my research has shown.

Our group never has a problem finding NP, SMB or the Eyes. What we have had a problem with, is finding the lakers. That is until my last trip two years ago on Little Sag, when I brought the correct tackle and a fish finder. It turned out to be a very successful trip for our little group of explorers.

Not having a topo lake map for Knife, I'm kind of throwing darts blindly. Is my assumption correct that Lakers can be taken in the large basin near the Sema Lake Portage or, do we need to be in the main channel? We also plan on fishing Kek, Sema and a few others. It would just be nice to know If I'm in the ballpark.

Thank you!!!

Go to Minnesotabook store.com.
The have a great selection of fishing maps.
1 nice 3 map set of knife that is quite detailed for around 12-15 bucks..
The are large maps that can be rolled in a tube.

I wouldn't fish that basin not deep enough, troll around out by the thunder head, or go down to kek

I was just out at Knife in late May. We did well. We worked the the deep basins and any structure that protruded near them. Check my YouTube video to see what tackle we used: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lHpFk9GQ4cA
