Hello fellow Boundary Men and Women,

Heading up to the BW first week of August and first time going out of EP 14 with 8 of us total.

Plan is to head straight north up to North Lake or one of the surrounding lake(Eugene, Fat) and basecamp there for 4 nights and do some day trips to the surrounding lakes. We are also considering breaking it up and spending the first night on little loon lake before we do the little loon to slim portage and make our way through the rest of the lakes.

Can someone recommend campsites along this path for such a large group?

Has anyone done the secret hidden portage between Slim and Fat lake and would you recommend it to skip the 4 or 5 other portages we would have to do to get to Eugeneor Fat lake if we went north of Slim into South?

Look forward to hearing back from everyone!

Welcome to the Board!
I did find a couple of pictures of the Slim to Fat portage you were referring to - pretty unused and more like bushwacking. It runs along the bottom between the 2 lakes and is about 220+ rods long.
I hope someone has more complete information for you. Not a "well travelled trail" by any means.

I just did the Slim-Fat Portage two weeks ago. It's fairly easy to follow, but tough. Lots of turns and trees to step over. I thought it was 256 rods, but it's probably closer to 300. To find it, there's two downed trees in the water on the eastern shore right where it is. Fat was gorgeous, clearest water ever. Lots of Lakers in that lake and blueberries right at the campsite. I don't have video of the portage itself except for the landing on the Slim side. Here's a link to my video trip report:
