This morning I was watching "How it's Made" and they did a segment on making Ghilli kettles. I didn't know anything about them, so I watched a couple You tubes. Anybody have any experience with either of these?

I bought one and brought it one year. Seemed like a lot of trouble to keep the fire going to boil the water vs either

a. put a pot on the fire grate with a fire going

or

b. have hot water in 60 seconds via a jet boil

It is also heavy and bulky. The only advantage I could see is that you don't have to pack fuel to boil water.

I thought they were real too as I watched youtube videos. The weight was the thing that bothered me. I bought a mkettle from titanium goat that they had on sale for 60.00. It weighs in at 16oz. I like and will be taking it with me this trip, but the backcountry boiler is a lighter version of the same thing. They are smaller versions of what you are looking at. Cabelas does carry a kelly kettle kit on their website. I like that you don't have to carry fuel. The small alcohol stoves fit in nicely and work well with them too. For larger groups white gas is hard to beat.

I have seen Kevin Callan using the hobo stove from a Kelly kettle in some of his videos. He seems to like that part of it because I have seen it on a few different trip videos he made.

I picked up one of the kettles on sale last year but I haven't used it yet. I like the idea of boiling water without carrying fuel.
