I spotted this lightweight Alumacraft canoe in Grand Marais this afternoon. They finally figured out a way to reduce the weight to compete with the Kevlar brands.

There has GOT to be a story behind that. I wonder if we will ever know what it is?

It's so light that you paddle really fast and the boat planes and no water gets in. Yeah, that's the ticket.

I bet they are planning to weld that section into another split boat for a stretch canoe.

Minnesota doesn't require a watercraft under 10' to be licensed. The modification is a good way to skirt that rule!

My crystal ball says they will close up both ends, put in a drain plug and use it as a beer tub.

Yeah but if they left the ends on then you get more beer.

A nice base platform and a couple of shelves and it will look great in the man cave.

I milled around for a while to see if the owner would return and I could ask about it but then I got hungry for a donut and wanted to check out the Beaver Flicks at The Beaver House.

With it mounted that way on the vehicle it makes a great air scoop. Can't imagine what the would be like in a headwind.
