How do you get an idea of the weather ahead of a trip? I am most interested in daily highs and lows.

I am planning some day trips near East Bearskin Lake. I can pull up accuweather forecast for Grand Marais but is that a good approximation? It seems Grand Marais is right on the shore of Lake Superior and this would affect the weather.

NOAA
Under Forecast, choose 'Local' then click on the map to get a forecast for exactly where you plan to be

Use the Ely forecast

I usually look up historical averages and record highs before a trip. I get both Grand Marais and Ely forecasts right before entry when on the GM side of the BW. There's usually little or no difference. I do carry a small weather radio on trips, which just gives me the nearest NOAA forecast (GM).

Where's your entry point?

Entry point 64, East Bearskin Lake

I have been looking at Accuweather for both Ely and Grand Marais. For today Ely high is predicted at 82. Grand Marais is predicted at 67. To me this is a large difference.

Grand Marais proper is on the shore of Superior. Ely is a good general forecast as it's somewhat centrally located. I always bring a weather radio & rely on that once in.

Yes, it is, but not that hard to be prepared for either, especially on a day trip. Take an extra layer and, of course, rain gear. I do like mirth and AmarilloJim, giving more weight to the Ely forecast once away from GM, since I'm then away from the big lake effect.
