It is very disappointing looking at the available accessories that Garmin offers as compatible with the inReach. I took a gamble and bought a non-compatible mount that looked like it might work and it does.

This mount is for the 62 series and Oregon series GPS, but it works perfectly with the inReach. And its $8. It mounts with a thumbscrew, so you don't even need tools to adjust or move it. I found it to get in the way on the thwart, but it works brilliantly and is well protected on the center of the footbrace.

Looks nice and seems lightweight as well. Don't have one but appreciate the post!

Ever actually check to see if the Inreach Explorer floats? My GPS 62st does with lithium Energizer batteries. Both units weigh within a fraction of an ounce.
Looks like your mount is easier to use than the Ram Mount cradle I use. Almost need a crowbar to get it out!

It isn't a brick, but not quite enough bouyancy to float on its own, either. The old delorme had a neoprene floaty case, but none is available for the Garmin. I test sunk it in the kitchen sink, and decided a float was cheap insurance.

Yup it's hard to tell the volumes due to size differences. Got to play with an Explorer Plus at the EAA and asked many questions of the Garmin tech-rep who was a long time Delorme employee. Posted some tips in the GPS forum.

Help me understand why you would want to mount the InReach. I can see mounting a GPS, but not the InReach. What am I missing?

This model also has graphical GPS mapping capability.

Good size screen that displays a USGS 25k topo. Campsites and portages can be added by transferring .gpx files via the application.

Got it. That makes sense! My InReach does not have that ability.
