Most hammock users are already equipped but for some others, this may be of interest.

I basically made the same thing by duct taping "wings" onto my blue closed cell ground mat. I cut the wings from another old mat.

I've seen underquilts cheaper than this. It's a good idea that's been around for years. Unas10 mentioned making one out of two pads, this works well for about $100 less.

Down underquilts get really small, very compact-able and if you're spending $170, you might as well spend $250. My Hammock Gear full length Incubator 20F is only 21oz, compared to 32oz on this Klymit pad. Although 10"x5" is a pretty small little pack, that's for sure. Interesting product, I'd be curious if we see copycats.

Why would I put a $170.00 32 oz. air mattress in my hammock when I could get a Hammock Gear Econ Incubator 30 down underquilt that costs $138.00 and weighs 22 oz.?

3.25 liters opposed to 5.5 liters packed and immune to water are the advantages I see. With some tweaks it could be a competitive product. It also lifts you higher in the hammock, which reviews on Amazon seem to mention, and like - less claustrophobic.

My down underquilt and top quilt go into sil-nylon compression dry sacks, so moisture isn't an issue. I canoe camp so the difference in size doesn't concern me as much as the weight difference.

Immune from moisture when in a silnylon bag is quite different from completely immune to moisture all the time. If there's moisture, down gets damp. Never ceases to amaze me how spray manages to cover everything, even in a completely covered setup. Personally, I'm still on the down underquilt bandwagon, but I can see a potential benefit.

UQP deals with the spray quite well.

My quilts have been thru many storms from Isle Royale, Pictured Rocks to Quetico and have never gotten wet.

I'm down with using down.

It would however be better than a down UQ if one had to go to ground for some reason.

I like the inventiveness of the product. I think the price point is to high for the weight.
