I have learned many things from this site. From new items to me to minor adjustments to existing procedures along the way. One several years ago was my introduction to gravity filters. I am somewhat at a loss as to how we did it with the trips to deep water to fill plastic containers to pumping along the shore. Do you have any thing you can attribute to learning from this site you now do or use on your trips?

I was also persuaded to buy a gravity filter by folks here and queticomike persuaded me to buy flukes.

Off the top of my head, I switched to a gravity filter, switching to a bear barrel, got a camp chair, and stopped tying or connecting my packs to the canoe.

I stopped going solo because of all the friends I've made. Haha.
And now unable to paddle, I can read trip reports and such and almost feel like I'm there. Especially when I'm included on an InReach transmission where I can follow and communicate as you go.
And yes, from gravity filters to several menu ideas it's been fun to share.
Spring Creek... was also fun to be involved with.

Coffee sack chair, Zulu flukes, net anchor, tail dancers, floating jigheads, a few good books, good tarp/fly, expedition mats, and numerous very handy tips and practices. Too many to remember at a moment's notice.

Now that you mention it, a lot of things large and small . . .

Gravity water filter was one of the first, which morphed to Sawyer Squeeze for solo, then Sawyer Water Bottle with Sawyer mini gravity setup.

Wet footing eventually got tried and that and other changes have gradually made portaging smoother, quicker, easier, and more efficient.

The ridgeline tarp set up is the newest big thing.

Along the way, a lot of gear has been replaced with better and/or lighter stuff - tents, tarps, stoves, packs, sleeping pads and bags.

Stashing food in bear canisters/Ursacks vs. hanging.

Another important concept picked up was the "ditch kit".

Oh, yeah, I also bought a camp chair, a tarp, and some dealie-thingy-bobbies.

The Ursack and the gravity filter are the two most recent changes recommended by great folks on this site. I never thanked you. So thanks

Gravity filter! Filters so fast I'm still not convinced it can possibly work :)

Sat phones would be the latest for me. Haven't rented one before, but will do on next trip, thanks to this site. Sort of like long term care insurance: devastating to think of consequences of not having either if either is very sorely needed.

Jello mold oven, innie tent footprint, 6# test monofilament, a hammock, Google maps and campsite reviews.

Don't buy flukes?? Buy Strike King Zulus \ Z Too or the ZMAN ShadZ or StreakZ

Oh man...I don't know if I can remember everything.

CCS everything, various outfitters, routes, tents, sleeping bags, sleeping pads, fishing gear and techniques, chair one, bearvaults, stoves, cook kits, saws, and darn near everything else. I learn something new every time I come here!

Going Commando
The wasted weight of bringing deordant along
The most efficient way to dispatch a problem bear
These are a few things I have learned ;-)

However, I have to give the most credit to others who convinced me to buy a camp chair, and a center pole for my tarp.

All the fishing advice I have received, especially slip bobber fishing. Basketball net anchors, fish grips, tail dancers, Zulu minnows, brook trout secrets.

I've learned that things like a weather radio, CCS tarps, down bags, Irwin saws, reflector ovens, certain gravity filters and the right clothing can make trips much more enjoyable. Then there is the never ending list of tips and tricks that make the things we do every day on a trip easier. Heck, I'll go as far as to say just about everything I've learned or know about the BW I read on this website.

I second the gravity filter, innie footprint (Tyvek),also, permethrin pre spray for clothes, dehydrating food, fishing advice, route planning, and the realization that you don't have to agree on everything to find common ground and appreciate their insights, and that sometimes people you don't know well or at all can still leave a hole when they are gone.

CCS tarps, I'd be still using my old Kelty tarp that was servicable, but nothing special. The CCS can be deployed in so many ways, it's so handy. Never would have thought about one until I started seeing people sing their praises here.

NEMO gear, I couldn't have gotten past the "Neon" color had I not read so many good things about them here. My Helinox chair, my Klymit pad, and I'm certain I'm forgetting some. And lets not forget, my favorite music; I'd have never gotten to know and started listening to Jerry Vandiver without this site!

Information on, and the charm of, primitive management areas. Also, an excellent little experimental review that put me on to using Keen hiking boots for canoe boots... they have worked well for me.

Gear wise? Could go several ways including nothing, or a ton of stuff. I'm an experimenter and DIY putz, trying many different things and going back and forth to old and new interchangeably. Whatever I chose to use at the time.

What does stand out for me is the quality membership of this particular website!
Spent most of my life as a camping hermit till I met and associated with fellow BWCA.COM'ers. Damn near turned me into a social butterfly! Speaking of that, NCTRY I'll be stopping by on my way home to share my lies about Quetico.

Besides the friends I made on here, I would have to say the map area. People have given such great details to campsites and lakes that I can check them out before our trip and show the kids the pics and discuss our plans. They also give great fishing tips which almost always pan out. I have started to leave campsite comments because of how helpful I find them. I love that area of the website, especially in January. Before kids I would just wing it when it came to campsites. But now I have a lot more pre planning that goes into a trip to make everyone happy.

CCS gear, ZMan/Zulu soft bait, Helinox camp chair all come to mind. Lots of neat little tips that I've used along the way that came from the board too.
