......and headed home for the final pack check. Driving to Seagull tomorrow and headed up the Falls Chain on Sat. 4 solos plus a hitchhiker. We (Kiporby, Suncatcher, Butthead and cowdoc) have some of kanoes ashes and will be taking him on the final paddle. He will rest forever in a remote area of Quetico to view sunsets and listen to the wind in the Pines and the wail of the Loon. 8 days and 80+ miles......weather looks good.....cya

We are back. 91 mile loop on the Falls Chain, Kawnipi, Agnes, Louisa, Faquier, McEwen, Saganagons. Quite a trip. Kanoes has been laid to rest on a west facing cliff. Gorgeous views. It was an emotional evening......but felt good in the end. We had a great time but are beat. That route from Louisa up to McEwen is a tough one. Had a fair amount of wind but thankfully it was at our backs. It was still a little dicey riding 2 foot rollers down Agnes on a stiff north wind.

I toasted Jan the night you, Kiporby, Suncatcher and butthead honored him.
I thought about everclear with lemonade but felt that could stay as Jan's drink of choice only and went with a double shot of Maker's Mark and a cigar instead.
Rest in Peace good friend. I wish I could have joined the trip.

This was a Great Trip, On the way up the Falls Chain on my maps I wrote
"kanoes Memorial Hiway" Anyway, Like the other boyz said it was a bit somber and emotional. After it was all said and done, it was the right thing to do.
Really this was his wife Theresa's idea, and we must thank her for allowing us the honor to be the ones to do this.
RIP Jan Johnson aka kanoes

Ah I know those trailers very well. My favorite outfitter.
Good on you guys to honor Kanoes in this way. Will there be a trip report posted here in the future?
