Hey guys, long time reader, first time poster. This is obviously a little off-topic on a fishing message board, but this the only board I read on this site so I thought I would start here.
To make a long story short - I made a very big mistake in 2009 and received a DWI in Minnesota. It's been 6.5 years since my sentence (i.e. probation) was completed. Given it's been 5+ years and I haven't had any further convictions, it appears I'm eligible to apply for the "Criminal Rehabilitation" method of re-entry into Canada. The application requires a lot of info and I've read that a lot of people recommend hiring a Canadian lawyer to help prepare the application materials and make the best case.
I was wondering if anyone had any advice on how to navigate this whole process, and additionally, if there were any Canadian law firms you would recommend?
I've done two fly-in Canadian fishing trips with my dad back when I was in college, but unfortunately we have not been able to go since then given my DWI. My dad is now in his mid-60s and who knows how many more opportunities we'll have to go. As such, I would greatly appreciate any advice you guys might have. Thank you in advance.
From what I know Canada is probably going to be a no-go for at least 5 years yet for you. You do have other great (maybe better) options such as a fishing trip to Alaska.
