I just spotted a canoe for sale in our area. It is a 17' Kevlar 49 which appears to be in very, very, very good shape from the outside. No pictures of the inside. I am looking at possible age and value of this ride. They are asking $750.
Thanks,FISHONFISHOFF

I believe Kevlar 49 is just Dupont's Kevlar brand name. No model name?

The last 2 numbers in the serial number are the year it was made. Any kevlar canoe in "very very very good shape" is worth over $750.

Hey FoFo.....I just saw that add......it looks pretty clean from the two photos! Definitely worth a look if you are in the market.

If it's this one make sure that's the canoe design you want.

Thanks for the input. I will be somewhat in the area of the canoe on Saturday. If it is still for sale, I may have to to take a look.

The ad says it is a SPIRIT 2 and weighs somewhere between 40-48#. It was made in 1993.

I bought a '98 vintage Spirit II laid up in Tuf-Weave for 900 about 5 years ago. I think that's a very good price if the hull is in good shape.

Does the inside have ribs and a diamond shaped foam core bottom? If so, it's a UL kevlar and it will weigh about 42 lbs. If not, it's a flex core and it will weigh about 54 lbs.

There was no photos of the inside and it looks as if my planned trip through that area tomorrow has been canceled due to rain. This means someone else will be able to get on this deal. The outside of the canoe has decals which say Kevlar 49 and the owner said it was Kevlar, some I'm assuming it is Kevlar. The canoe would be great but for what I do in Ohio, I'm probably much better off with my Royalex and renting Kevlar on my trips up north.
