Four buddies of mine just came back today from the numbers chain. Woke up this am to find three packs missing. They lost two but found my CCS Guide I had lent them.
They did notify the Ranger Station as they left town. Rangers informed them that there have been bear issues of late on Lake 1 and Lake 3.
They didnt hear a thing and summized it had to be more than one bear to have taken all three packs without making that much noise.
CCS Guide suffered bite holes and rips in the snorkel collar at the top. Taking it up to Dan and Karens tomorrow to see what they can fix.
Buddy offered to buy me a new pack. I said no of course. I told him they woiuld be called memory marks. There isnt a scratch on the rest of the pack, just the collar. They said if was closed up. Somehow the bear(s) opened the pack and made off with liner with its contents.

"Not your average bear BooBoo"
Heads up and be safe.

Were the other packs food packs or gear packs?

If food packs, were they hung?

A CCS Guide pack with repaired bear bite marks is MUCH better than a brand new one. Good for you for turning down the replacement!

Update
After washing the pack before I see the Cookes I noticed bite marks all over the back side where the straps are. But no punctures at all in the 1000D Cordura.
Must have been the cub that tried to bite into it. Shows that 1000D is some tuff stuff.
Pulled out the foam insert for the back and there were teeth marks all over the foam. Spread of the teeth was only about 1-2 inches apart. Will let you know what D an K can do about the collar.

One was gear and one was food, never found either. But they didnt look too hard after they guessed about the mother with cubs.

The food pack was not hung, sitting by the fire grate. They didnt try to hide it off in the woods. Lesson learned!
