Duluth Pack did a huge price jump a year or two back. At that time I was thinking they were pricing themselves out of the canoeing tripping market. I do have several of their packs, but I have been using CCS products myself the last few years. That being said the "sale" prices do look back in line. Not knocking Duluth Pack products at all... top quality, and great customer service to boot!

I bought my camp kitchen pack for $175.00 about 15 years ago. It's was priced at $575.00 on sale today for $345.00. That's still a huge increase in price.

Yeah I really don't know how they make it. I wanted one of their shotgun cases which were priced at $185...already one of the more expensive cases but then before I could buy they went up to $370. I was saving gift cards for years but not that much :) Then I thought I might as well get the Bison leather for $395, but then that eventually went up to over $500. I gave up and used my gift cards to buy a nice Gransfors axe from them. Who the heck can afford to buy their stuff, but they are still in business so what do I know.

Is it true that when this happened a big chunk of their labor force left as well? Went to Frost River? For some reason I recall this being mentioned a few years ago.

I agree with everyone, especially walleee that Duluth packs have really gotten expensive. I own several of their packs including the tackle box in waxed canvas. Even when I bought it about seven years ago it ran over $200. Today in waxed canvas it nudges $400.00. That is crazy. I also own a few FR packs and think they are the equal or in many ways even better than Duluth packs. It's too bad that traditional canvas packs have become so pricey, which makes CCS packs all the more attractive. JerryG

It had been years since I had looked at Duluth Packs, so on my way home from my trip this summer I stopped in at the store. It was as much a break from the drive as anything. Got some coffee and walked the lakeshore a bit while I waited for the shop to open. I about fell over when I looked at the price of the #4 portage pack I was planning to buy. I knew the price would have gone up a bit since I had last priced them, but like others have said... it more than doubled. I ordered a CCS when I got home.

If my income went up as fast as their prices, I could easily afford to buy at non sale prices. As it is, I will keep my number 3 which has a tear of my fault for a while longer.

WOW, just....WOW! Never paid over a C-note years ago. Sold off all mine except my butt-ugly orange Cruiser pack that fits my pack basket. I prefer the nylon packs since they are lighter, especially when wet. Didn't matter so much years ago, but now....... Since I don't trip as much nor "Outfit" all my friends I'm down to my old Superior, a Kondos, and the DP Cruiser.

I like browsing in the store, and go in there often since they are dog friendly and give my pups treats and water.
I even buy a few things every so often but I cannot afford any of the gear that they manufacture.
My wife and I have a couple old Duluth Packs but we rarely use them anymore. I have Battle Lake portage pack.

May the rivers be crooked and winding, and your portages lonesome, leading to the most amazing view.

From what I have been told, the guy running Frost River was in partnership with Frost River.. A falling out was had, he was bought out, then Started Frost River..
Like someone else said, Duluth Pack has gone Hipster / College crowd..
The Big Grand reopening sale they ran, dropped the pack prices down into the realm of what Frost River sells their stuff for normally..
I so much want a ISLE ROYALE BUSHCRAFT PACK, and CAMP COOK’S KITCHEN PACK from Frost River.. But that's a lot of scratch especially when I have all my old rucks that rucks that I got from Uncle Sugar when I was in... They may not be as nice as the canvas packs, but the price is right...
