Ben made it through his surgery yesterday. His sister said that he didn't start until 1 pm. The surgery lasted nine hours and Ben said that the video that he had to watch before hand was a little deceiving as it only lasted 5 minutes.

Now, Ben... you MUST listen to your doctors and any PT you have!! you've got to take cared of this body of yours cuz you still need if for Living stuff!"
Yeah, what Mocha said. Glad to hear the surgery is over. Nine hours is long time so now rest and try to relax for as long as you can. Sending good healing thoughts your way, Ben.

quote bapabear: "Good news. May you heal well and quickly. Suppose the video had been nine hours???"
Right before going in I showed him what was done before. He wasn't sure he could do the surgery. Lots of scar tissue to fight through. Reason number 1 to have a quality surgeon do your work. Yeah, I barely made it through the 5 min video. Haha. Thanks all for your thoughts and prayers.

Hey, you! Thoughts have been with you from all here. Even though none have met you and many were worried that you wanted to eat me, every one of my girls has sent kind thoughts your way. You are always in our thoughts and prayers, Ben!

Great to hear Ben! Hope you have a speedy recovery and that you finally feel much better. Sorry I missed you and the others a few weeks ago. Had another commitment and an issue to deal with all at the same time.

Hang in there Ben! Put a picture of your happy place nearby, play some northwoods loon calls on a nature CD, and do those exercises or whatever they prescribe to get you strong and ready to go again. I'll be cheering for you! Please don't hesitate to let us know if there's something we can do to help.

Hey Ben, keep on trucking. I know that's an old expression. Let me know if I can help. ( I know where you live!!) after next week, going to Florida, I will still have a couple days of vacation. I am not real handy but I can still do some labor. Pete

Best of luck big guy. Nine hours of knife work. Ouch babe. You must be pretty doped up. Just think, there is a sizable amount of the population who would pay big money to catch a buzz on the drugs you are on now. I hope you have cute nurses. That's big. I still have a crush on Shirah, a Filipino girl who was the sweetest person I ever met. Something about her. So caring and kind. Something sexy about when someone doesn't let you die, and keeps you smiling along the way. Shirah was one of many, another favorite of mine is Margaret, a polok chick who I knew I liked and trusted the first time she spoke to me and I looked her in the eye.
My fav you tube video to listen to late at night when in the hospital was a Gordon Lightfoot concert from '78 I think. Haven't listened to it since. Very mellow. And the Ramones of course. That's a recipe for success. Peace, love, and rock n roll. Get better! Whatever it takes. That's all that counts.
Cheers, your pal, Billy

Ben is in my prayers. Any more info on what's going on?

Agreed. I would call him but don't want to bother him. Any updates would be appreciated. Really.

Wow, guys. Thanks! Kind of a not so good time in my life. But your friendships make it so much more tolerable. Thanks...
Just want to add... This whole deal is life changing. I will always move forward to possibly get that canoe of mine on some fun trips again. But for now I'm relearning a few things and one is accepting where I'm at with all this. Some of this is so embarrassing you can't imagine. But I've got that wonderful season we call winter. (Which is short for non road construction). So I can hopefully regain some functions and my ability to do the things I love. I know there are some that don't believe this, but I am going to follow every bit of instruction from my doctors and get this all behind me. There was some other stuff that showed up on scans that could be of concern. But, well... We'll deal with it as we have to.
So thanks for your thoughts and prayers. Just know I care a lot for everyone on this board. I better go back to bed. Tomorrow (today) is going to be a big day!

I haven't been posting, but I think you know you are in our thoughts and prayers. You have my email address, and if you want to communicate, please feel free. You are definitely on our minds. Just the other day Spartan1 said, "If we lived closer, I would like to go and help organize a "bee" to finish up Ben's house."
We think of you a lot and wish you healing and health.

The only times I've been in a hospital is to visit people or to wait for my wife while she underwent minor surgery. I can only imagine what you went thru. Hope you heal thoroughly.

Thank you Lynda, you and Neil are great examples of the big hearts in this "community". I am blown away by all this support. This was very life changing, humiliating, humbling and quite the challenge. Just like in our communities we live in, we don't really get to know the people around us unless we make an effort to get out there and meet them. That is why our little web site thrives like it does. People can put all else aside and see each other for who they are. So many big hearts in this crowd. There are great people all around us everywhere, but this is a special bunch. Just goes to show the good effects of paddling, right?

I got back from my 21 day solo to the Kopa Provential Park in Ontario last week and in the process of catching up with what's been going on since I left and read about Ben and his surgery. Man I hope he is doing OK. Any further info would be great. Ben's such a nice guy and such a resource to our board. Take care Ben, heal quick, stay strong, you've got a whole bunch of folks out here who care about you. FRED

Hoping to see you next season with a big grin on your face that says you did what you said you'd do, take all the instructions, follow them to a "T" and feel good enough to go out again. Now remember, your first paddle should maybe be a test trip, don't try to do too much, too soon.

Thanks everyone. I've been having a rough go. But having people like Hawbaker, Kevin L, Housty9 and Lisa checking in on me keeps me going. Mocha too keeps tabs and reminding me to behave. Lynn, if Chris and his son stop in tonight, treat him good. Very nice guy and wow what a nice young man he has with him. Long before spring I hope to be flashing a big smile. Kind words from Fred and everyone. Sure will be good to get back on the giving end. I'm very humbled by everyone. I love you all. And thank you so much. This really is kicking me.

They did just stop in, thank you for referring VNO! Dillon (the son) is a fine, fun young man. They are going to Mudro for a day trip tomorrow, planning on doing some fishing. John marked their map for them and they will come into tomorrow morning for some fishing ideas/technique ideas.

How did it go Lynn? I hope this rain quits early today and they have a wonderful time. Dillon's mom is a Bob Dillon fan. I didn't have the courage to ask if the older son s name was Bob.
