As a dedicated solo canoeist, I've only a Bell "Magic" to my name. During the first week of October, I'll arrive to the twin cities with my 10 year old son (we live in Peru, S.A.) for his first visit to the BWCA. I've been in and out of the boundary waters since 1970. I'm looking to borrow/rent a canoe - preference given to smaller tandem, which should be a very lightweight canoe that loves to be paddled. I can and will compensate in a variety of ways, I'm not asking for anything free, and you'll be surprised what I can offer. If you are curious, please reach out via cafeandino at hot mail dot com . thank you - Chris

Thank you! I think we are set with gear, although I need to get a youth (50 - 90lbs) life preserver suitable for paddling. He's about 80lbs. I'm over-the-moon looking forward to this trip !!

Hey Folks,

OP here, I'll just take a quick moment to recognize the generosity and faith that exists in the membership body of this site. I've had many offers of support, and many notes sent with good will and good vibes. In a confusing and sometimes cold-hearted world, it's heartening to see trust and fellowship and humanity. Thanks to members of this group, my son and I will have what we need to embark. Should anyone need advice or assistance planning adventures in Peru, please reach out to me at the e-mail address indicated in original post. - Chris

A brief follow-up to close the books on this, as my son and I have arrived back in Peru and are catching up with life and communications. Longtime members of this board won't be surprised to hear that I was contacted by VARIOUS members with generous offers of advice, support, and equipment. How can I thank this community enough?
I will get back to folks individually, but here publicly I'd like to thank NCTRY / Ben for his over-the-top hospitality - even as he recovers from surgery. Those who know him are nodding their heads right now. I'd like to think I am generous with my time, toys, and wisdom, but hanging around with Ben and hearing from others via this board humbles me. Remember: anybody who visits the cordillera Blanca or Huayhuash of Peru - please reach out to me, I'll be happy to pay it forward with you! cafeandino at hot mail dot com.

I hereby dub him Gentle Ben. Wait! That'll start a bear thread. Never mind.

There is a certain resemblance...:) Way to go, Ben.

Chris is a over the top great guy. His coming here bringing his ten yr old son for him to experience the canoe country we've all come to love I thought was pretty cool. Speaking of cool... Hey Chris it's going to be below zero here tonight... That's not Celsius. Woodstoves are working overtime tonight. Anyways, I'm all about helping people when I can. And where was I going with the canoe. I can't do much of anything right now. It was a delight to get beat hands down in Uno by a ten year old. That kid showed no mercy. Probably heard about how I post scores when I win on the refrigerator.my daughter is so bummed she didn't destroy our last score card. Chris and Dylan are great guys. I think we should have a big Wing Night next time he comes.
And thanks banksiana for storing my canoe and stuff. I just can't snap out of this crap to get up there. I'll wait until you return now I think. I just can't take me anywhere right now.
