I am interested in buying one of these, and am curious as to what everybody's experiences are with them. Those of you who have them, did you go with the 1.1 or 1.9 oz silicone? Do you have the 15x15 or 12x12? Did you buy the poles and how many? Pretty sure I am going to bite the bullet on one of these soon, but trying to decide what exactly I should get.

The lighter one seems like the way to go, and I am thinking about getting the larger room, but am wondering if folks have generally had a harder time finding a good spot for the larger one.

And am trying to decide how many, if any, poles I should snag.

Any advice here would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Both shelters seem large for some campsites so I would error towards the smaller version.

How many folks do you usually camp with? If its usually 1 or 2 the smaller screen tent might be better.

I envy you in the sense that getting one of these bug tents is the best there is. Read some of Cliff Jacobsen's comments on these shelters. They are very pricey but very well made. I settled for a Nemo buyout fly that is 12x12. I have found it a good size for a couple of reasons. When the bugs are bad and so is the weather, you would be surprised how quickly everyone gravitates to your fly. It will also fill up quickly with gear and you need to place it strategically to keep it dry. If I were you, and had the money, I would go with the 15x15. While it sounds big, go in your yard and measure off 15 ft. It's not that big. In almost all BW and quetico campsites I have used a 15 x 15 would work. However, it you are really counting ounces and it is only for say 2 people, then the 10x10 would be OK. Either way, this is the cadillac of bug flys

i think i would be talking to Dan Cooke about the weights of the material as you have 2 choices. Naturally we tend to gravitate towards the lighter options. But in this instance is that actually preferable. I don't know but its a worthwhile question.

Just how much heavier in total weight is the thicker material? Is the heavier weight fabric easier to work with (to erect)? Is the heavier material less likely to make noise when windy? Is the heavier material more likely to last substantially longer (no small question considering a considerable investment). Remember, with the screening down it will catch wind and be subject to some stress during a blow. If you get the lighter material I would be rolling up the sides when not in use.

And of course you factor in your tripping style. If you travel just a few days and then stay camped for several then I would definitely choose the heavier material. If you tend to move frequently then the lighter becomes more important.

As per size.........I guess that is determined by how many folk you typically travel with. 15x15 might be overkill for 2 or 3 and more difficult to set up. On the other hand if you are a dedicated base camper the extra room is nice regardless the # of people. Its all about your style of travel.

I gravitate to the 1.9. I have both 1.1 in my Lean3Plus ans 1.9 in my tarps. We like the 1.9 because it lets less sunlight through. Getting older,I like more sun protection, plain and simple. The wt difference isnt much.

we do not have one of CCS screen tents, but we do have a homemade screen tent that we clip underneath our 10 x 12 CCS tarp once the tarp is up.

our tarp is 1.9 oz and the 10x12 size has been fine for trips of 4 adults and 4 kids. we can easily fit camping chairs for that many people under it. its cozy with that many, but not overly cramped. we don't bring collapsible poles, but normally use either a paddle or a rod case on top of a something (pack/barrel/log/rock) if we want to prop up the middle of the screen/tarp.

I have 2 CCS tarps and they're the best tarp money can buy if you ask me. However instead of buying a CCS brand bug out I bought a 9x9 bugout by Nemo for $200 I think it was. At first I was thinking to myself "eh its not a CCS but it's 200 cheaper than his bugout" but after sitting under it for a week I came to really admire the quality Nemo put into it. Consider a 9x9 Nemo, it's the perfect size for 6 ppl to sit under and cook/ escape the wind/bugs, and much cheaper. It's a quality tarp that is REALLY hard if not impossible to leave behind.
