I have a back basement room I use for overflow of my inventory from my business I own. I also want to store all my camping gear etc down there. (minus canoe etc)
How do you guys store your gear at home? I have one of those 5 tiered wire heavy duty shelves and try to keep sleeping gear together, kitchen gear, dry bags etc. Then I hang up my Duluth packs and sleeping bags. But the sleeping bag stored in the big mesh bag when not on a trip takes up a lot of room. Im looking for ideas on how to store things more efficiently.
Any pictures would be great. Thanks in advance.

Basement spare bedroom doubles as gear storage:
-sleeping pads under the bed unrolled/ valves open.
-sleeping bags/quilts hung in half over clothes hangers in the closet.
-hanging shelves in closet for hammocks, tarps, rolled soft goods, water filters,
-plastic storage bin for cooking stuff.
-backpacks in the closet on floor against the wall.
Paddles/PFDs/canoes/random bin of 'camping stuff' in the garage.
Outdoor specific clothes get their own shelf in the master bedroom closet.

I have nine of these guys in the basement, all clearly labeled ("camp/shelter", "utility", "kitchen", "food", "packs/bags/cases", "sleeping bags/quilts", etc.) so packing and put away are a snap.

Big plastic storage bins and my North Face big-ass duffel bag. Sleeping bags and pads are stored vertically in my closet. Canoe is currently leaned up against the side wall of my garage. Eventually, I'm going to make a harness/sling contraption to suspend it from the ceiling in the garage.

Mostly in a basement closet. My nice pads store under the living room couch unrolled & valves open. The kids sleeping bags are in stuff sacks in the bottom of the closet, everything else is on the shelves. Tents are stored in their stuff sacks too. The only things which have special stuff sacks are my EE quilt and my daughter's sleeping bag which came with a separate storage bag.

Unfortunately in North TX we don't have basements and it's too hot in the garage or shed to store most gear. I use a walk-in closet in our guest bedroom and a large metal storage cabinet. It's not easy to get to as it's packed pretty tight but I make do. I'll admit it's not ideal. I use large, clear plastic storage bins.

We now have our gear in an unheated storage space near our cabin in Ely. Gear is in plastic bins. For things that need to breathe, I drilled a plentitude of small holes in the top. That provides airflow without risking mice. Those bins include a day paddling bin for each of us with pfd and gloves plus a daypack, a shoe bin (can still be a bit damp when we leave), tent, tarp, and sleeping bag.
I'd rather hang the sleeping bag and tent but I'm just too worried about mice in a space we don't see for most of the year. For those, I used rubbermade action packers. The dual layer kids prevent a mouse from reaching in to the bag even if the bag is pushing up to the lid.

i have a designated gear, man cave. packs are hung on a wall, small items are in a tub. sleeping pads are lied flat, deflated. sleeping bags are stored in mesh duffel bags for good ventilation. tarps are loosely folded. all tents are in large mesh bags, loosely packaged for air flow.
the main importance for storing gear long term is air flow.
that gear has to breathe, fresh air.
been doing it this way for years, never a musty smell, of course, never put it away wet, duh!
just got done putting away, from a wet week at sawbill-still better than work. cheers!

well now, this is just what i need someone to do for me! LOL... my stuff is normally in some rubbermaid totes. right now it's all over the garage fighting for who gets to go on a trip to Utah in November.

My dedicated camping gear is stored in two 18 gallon totes. Nothing else goes in the bins. Sleeping bag hangs in the basement, tent is in the garage. Canoes are hung in the garage along with the paddles and PFDs. Stoves, lanterns and fuel are in the shed.

Nothing in stuff sacks. Pads unrolled in the crawl space. Bags unpacked, hanging in an extra bedroom. Tents and tarps unpacked and hanging in the same bedroom. All other gear in bins in the garage.

I went to using Maxpedition packs with liners. One pack is for camp stuff, another first aid and safety. The stuff in them stays in them. . .even in the basement when I return. When I return I check to make sure everything is stocked and leave things in the pack. The only pack that gets unpacked is the pack with my clothing in it.
I do several canoe camping trips a year. Just grab the two packs, throw in the pack with my clothes and I am gone.

Spare bedroom. Tents stacked behind the bed, sleeping pads inflated under the bed, two blue barrels with gear, two home-made wanigans (made by a friend), and sleeping bags in large duffel bags in closet. Soon, the down bags will reside one in each vehicle for wintertime; we keep one in the vehicle "Just in case." Paddles are hanging except my Zav and Werner, which are in my CCS paddle bag in the truck with my little pack basket with gear. PFD's and wet gear reside on the back porch or in the truck.
