Wow! That's really interesting. Poor moose just can't get a break. I hope they figure this out soon.

I know mosquitoes are an foundational element of food chains, but do ticks serve any purpose whatsoever? Lawdy, I hate them. I stay out of the woods in June because of them and wish moose could do the same.

I was good growing up until we got the deer tick in my area,now so many more new diseases to catch.

Sometime in the later 80’ticks cut the Minnesota moose NE herd (BWCAW area) from approx. 6,000 to 3,000 in a single year. Some moose had over 100,000 ticks on them...don’t know who had the job of counting them :) It is a tough life!

They just count a small area and extrapolate that over the average size of the moose.
