Folks, I just read (Quetico Superior Wilderness News) that in particular Chickenbone and Richie lakes have been posted to contain elevated levels of cyanobacteria and you should not drink the water from at least those lakes, perhaps others too. The newly found problem is a mystery as to why the lakes now are exhibiting elevated levels of this bacteria. It is speculated that the warmer lake waters are causing this alarming situation. I would guess that this is a late summer problem and the lake postings do not apply to the late spring or early summer periods. Check with the Isle Royale National Park Service if you are planning to canoe this route through Isle Royale next season for more authoritative and detailed instructions.
I trip to swing in a hammock, drag a line, smell the sweet air and view the beauty that surrounds me.
