Hey Quinn....

About how long does it take to hike and how far is it to Magnetic Rock from that backdoor parking spot that you told me about in a thread this summer? The one where you go through the gravel pit to get there.

We found it at the end of July but ended up not hiking to Magnetic Rock for a few different reasons. We are taking a daytrip up the Gunflint Trail from Grand Marais during Moose Madness next weekend and taking the backdoor trail to Magnetic Rock is on our short list of things we want to do that day.

Thanks.......

Anyone else that has done that part of the trail is welcome to answer as well ;)

I'd say it takes a little longer than the main trail, but not by much( It's a 3 mile round trip from the Gunflint to Magnetic Rock). On a map it looks to be about the same distance either way.

Great info.... thanks.
If we decide to bring the canoe I think our daytrip will be the back way into Crocodile through South Bean and Parsnip. Where is the parking spot for EP 66 from that direction? A few years ago I drove that road over to the Arrowhead Trail but didn't see a spot to park around there. Is there a little road you have to turn onto? I've been to Crocodile through East Bearskin and thought it would be fun to get in there from the other direction.

There is a parking spot off the shoe lake rd. It can be hard to see, but there should be a little kiosk. It's a bit over a mile after you go by Shoe Lake (which is a more obvious lake access).

Excellent. That should make finding it easier. I remember Shoe Lake. We parked there and sat down by the lake enjoying the view while having a snack. Thanks
