What is it? Is this the lightweight nylon tubular extension with drawstring common on many packs? Do the CCS hybrid packs have these?

And I thought I had gone through some deep portages.

Get it? Snorkel on a portage pack? Never mind ;-)

Hah, hah. There's a Land Rover that parks near our house with a snorkel on the air intake. It's way too clean a vehicle for that option. I think they need to drive it across a river and leave the mud on. Then they'll get my respect.

The "snorkel" is very useful for expanding the volume of your bag - just in case you buy too many things at the Boundary Water Canoe Area gift shops that are scattered along your route.
