I'm ordering my Northwind 18 this week. I would like a foot brace, question is, is there any reason to go aluminum rather than carbon? It's a $25 difference in price. I'm told the carbon is a cleaner install.

Pop rivet vs glue in installation and appearance. Both look to use the same tube brace and adjustment method.

Go the glued on carbon. No pop rivets in your hull. I have them in both my 17 and solo

Cool, I definitely don't want pop rivets, so carbon it is. It's ordered!

Hey call Northstar before you install it. I talked to the guy from Northstar at Canoecopia who dos'e the install at the factory. His way is different than the instructions you get. I installed mine his way.

Cool, he'll be the one doing it as this is a new custom canoe order. Nothing like that new boat smell!

Hello Blatz,
If you could forward the instructions you received from North Star about installing the carbon fiber foot brace.
We are looking to put one in the bow of our canoe to help with some foot problems my wife has had.
Otherwise, I will contact North Star directly.
Thank you very much,
Dennis

Wasn't the easiest thing ive done, i put the carbon brace in my northwind solo last year. I had to shape the carbon with a belt sander to fit my hull, and the 2 part epoxy pot life was quick, like a few mins. If i did it again id put rivets in, maybe Bear has some better advise than the instructions provided. Now if you dont have to shape the carbon like i did you will have an easier time.
