Closed up my Ely cabin a few weeks ago. On way home hit an eight or ten point buck. 70 mph. Our new (used) minivan was totaled. Thankfully wife, dogs, & I were ok....deer not so much. Near Chippewa Falls WS. Grateful it didn't come through the windshield !

Sorry that happened. Glad you and your family didn’t get hurt. That must have been scary and made a horrible sound. How did you make it home the rest of the way?

Sister lives in Menominee...30 miles away. They came & got us (had a ton of stuff in car). Stayed with them & borrowed van for a week.
Until that dawned on me, we were looking at renting car, finding motel with dogs included, and who knows what else. It could have been way worse.

That's really scary. I so wish that deer would understand cars better. I've seen one leap out and have an accident like that with the car in front of me. They didn't have a chance to avoid hitting it. All you can do is be grateful you and yours are ok and I'm glad you are and that you had help nearby.

That is scary.
Glad everyone is OK.
Times like this make us realize that stuff is just stuff, but our family is precious.

Dam Ed. Sorry to hear about your incident and the following hassle. Glad you and yours are OK. Like you say, it could have been worse. May we all count our blessings every day.

Glad you'all are ok! Hadn't hit one in decades and then two in a few months last year. I loved that Sierra, but so did the deer (and one tree)

So, some venison for Thanksgiving?

Wow, you must have really clobbered him. I've only hit one deer in my life, and he tasted good. One year i ate three road killed deer. One of them I got with my 87 Jeep Cherokee. Glad everyone is OK.

I've hit one deer in my life, going like 25-30.

I was with my brother when he hit a deer...going 4. Four. It was hilarious.

I can't even imagine hitting one full on at 70. Glad yall are okay.

Glad no one was hurt, Stumpy. Very lucky; hitting one at 70 mph can do a lot of damage and if he'd have come through the windshield . . .

I've been very lucky; we have a lot of car/deer collisions down here and I drove a lot. I've come very close many times.

I have hit a Moose and a Black Bear with my fire engine in my career.
The moose encounter was by Isabella MN.
The Ungulate ran in front of my engine on Hwy 1, I was doing 55 but got it slowed down to 20-25, when I gave that Moose a love tap in the rear from Fire Engine 672.

I hit the bear in Alaska last summer.
I was only going about 25 when it ran right out of the woods in front of my engine.
Got it slowed down to 15, and bumed it in the but with the right front tire.

Both anamils ran off into the woods hauling the mail and were unhurt.

Going across Montana I said a little prayer that I'd not hit anything. It was dark and about four in the morning and about ten ran across in front and behind, but no hit. Whew!
Sorry to hear of your encounter. Wow he packed a wallop!

I try not to drive much at night in deer country if I can help it. When I was coming back from WCPP I knew I wanted to be off the road before dark and right at dusk I rolled a little yearling up under my truck almost within sight of the motel I was going to stay at. Killed the deer but suffered no harm.

Actually, I try and not drive much at night period any more unless it is local.

There are a lot of deer in NE Wisconsin. some evenings there are several grazing in our back field here. I hope the hunters can make a dent in the population. I had one run into the drivers door of the suburban a few weeks ago and put a dent in it.....a loud bang in the dark. Glad you are OK... I have hit several in my travels but never totaled a vehicle like that....usually going 40 mph when they target me.

For years our trip timing had me driving between Eau Claire and Duluth, varying a little, but generally between midnight and 5:00 AM. Mind blowing how many deer strikes were taking place through there! Thankfully we weren't involved. Happy to hear you all are okay.

Can't tell you how many accidents I have responded to that involved hitting deer! Seeing the damage to your car, you really are lucky there were no injury's. Good news for you and your family.

Glad you're ok. Mighty expensive way to collect some venison! I know as the two I've been unfortunate enough to hit cost $5000 and $6000 in damage to my truck. Both times my air bag deployed! Again, glad you're ok.

Totaled out my 17ft mirror craft in Wisconsin on my way to a fishing trip in Minnesota 20 years ago, missed the first three with the jeep, the fourth caught the right front corner of the boat I couldn't even fit in the seat behind the steering wheel. Have never had good luck with deer, one with boat, four with my personal cars, three with patrol cars. Only hurt once.
