My wife saw the "Line Welder System" in the latest TheGrommet.com magazine she gets highlighting unique gifts and innovative products.

Tauten Line Welder System

Really ... a line welder ? Overpriced gimmick?

Looks like a very expensive option to knot tying. This fishing line welder supposedly securely attaches the line to the hook in 30 seconds. The weld to me is too big compared to a regular knot and likely to affect lure action.

May be a good deal for fingerless fisherman or those with a disability that can not tie knots.

I would rather spend $200 on a quality fishing rod or reel.

I could see this as an option for a commercial fisherman who ties hundreds of knots a day with ice cold fingers on a swordfish boat. But for me I will stick to the polomar knot for a while.

that's one big hunk of plastic gunk that it uses to fuse the line

I remember having some interest in this gadget but couldn't convince myself that it was an improvement. Plus I read some reviews which weren't particularly favorable.
