I tried to copy the Jorma led Jefferson Airplane blues song from the Woodstock movie as faithfully as I could.

I got my clean scan baby
Now I'm headed off for war
I got my clean scan baby
Now I'm headed off for war
When the world tried to hurt me
It put steel in my blood for sure

Cancer ain't no woman
But it sure can take your man
Cancer ain't no woman
But it sure can take your man

Did some fighting
Of that you can be sure
A lot of guys are fighting
Of that I am more than sure
If cancer wants to kill somebody
It don't have to follow no kind of law

Got my clean scan baby
Now I'm headed off for war
Got my clean scan baby
Now I'm headed off for war
Don't want to kill nobody
Nor follow no kind of law

"This Is My Song"

Why is my heart so light
Why are the stars so bright
Why is the sky so blue
Since the hour I met you

Flowers are smiling bright
Smiling for our delight
Smiling so tenderly
For the world, you and me

I know why the world is smiling
Smiling so tenderly
Its just the same old story
Thru all eternity

Love, this is my song
Here is a song, a serenade to you
The world cannot be wrong
If in this world there's you
I care not what the world may say
Without your love there is no day
So Love, this is my song
Here is a song, a serenade to you

You got the soulshine scat.

When you can't find the light,
That got you through a cloudy day,
When the stars ain't shinin' bright,
You feel like you've lost you're way,
When those candle lights of home,
Burn so very far away,
Now you got to let your soul shine,
Just like my daddy used to say.

[Chorus]
He used to say soulshine,
It's better than sunshine,
It's better than moonshine,
Damn sure better than rain.
Yeah now people don't mind,
We all get this way sometime,
Got to let your soul shine, shine till the break of day.

I grew up thinkin' that I had it made,
Gonna make it on my own.
Life can take the strongest man,
Make him feel so alone.
Now sometimes I feel a cold wind,
Blowin' through my achin' bones,
I think back to what my daddy said,
He said "Boy, in the darkness before the dawn:"

[Chorus]
Let your soul shine,
It's better than sunshine,
It's better than moonshine,
Damn sure better than rain.
Yeah now people don't mind,
We all get this way sometimes,
Gotta let your soul shine, shine till the break of day.

Sometimes a man can feel this emptiness,
Like a woman has robbed him of his very soul.
A woman too, God knows, she can feel like this.
And when your world seems cold, you got to let your spirit take control.

[Chorus]
Let your soul shine,
It's better than sunshine,
It's better than moonshine,
Damn sure better than rain.
Lord now people don't mind,
We all get this way sometimes,
Gotta let your soul shine, shine till the break of day.

Oh, it's better than sunshine,
It's better than moonshine,
Damn sure better than rain.
Yeah now people don't mind,
We all get this way sometimes,
Gotta let your soul shine, shine till the break of day.

Sweet. That reminds me of the song in Cool Hand Luke he sings after his mom died.

I don't care if it rains or freezes
As long as I got my plastic Jesus
Ridin, on the dashboard
Of my car

Comes in colors, pink and pleasant
Glows in the dark cuz it's iridescent
Take it with you
When you travel far

Get yourself a sweet Madonna
Dressed in rhinestone
Sittin on a pedestal
Of abalone shell

Goin ninety I ain't scary
Cuz I got the Virgin Mary
Assurin me
That I won't go to hell

Goin ninety I ain't scary
Cuz I got the Virgin Mary
Assurin me
That I won't go to hell

Simple Man by Charlie Daniels

I ain't nothin' but a simple man
They call me a redneck I reckon that I am
But there's things going on
That make me mad down to the core.

I have to work like a dog to make ends meet
There's crooked politicians and crime in the street
And I'm madder'n hell and I ain't gonna take it no more.

We tell our kids to just say no
Then some panty waist judge lets a drug dealer go
Slaps him on the wrist and then he turns him back out on the town.

Now if I had my way with people sellin' dope
I'd take a big tall tree and a short piece of rope
I'd hang 'em up high and let 'em swing 'til the sun goes down

Well, you know what's wrong with the world today
People done gone and put their Bible's away
They're living by the law of the jungle not the law of the land
The good book says it so I know it's the truth
An eye for and eye and a tooth for a tooth
You better watch where you go and remember where you been
That's the way I see it I'm a Simple Man.

Now I'm the kinda man that'd not harm a mouse
But if I catch somebody breakin in my house
I've got twelve guage shotgun waiting on the other side

So don't go pushing me against my will
I don't want to have to fight you but I dern sure will
So if you don't want trouble then you'd better just pass me on by

As far as I'm concerned there ain't no excuse
For the raping and the killing and the child abuse
And I've got a way to put an end to all that mess

Just take them rascals out in the swamp
Put 'em on their knees and tie 'em to a stump
Let the rattlers and the bugs and the alligators do the rest

You know what's wrong with the world today
People done gone and put their Bible's away
They're living by the law of the jungle not the law of the land
The Good Book says it so I know it's the truth
An eye for and eye and a tooth for a tooth
You better watch where you go and remember where you been
That's the way I see it I'm a Simple Man

I've got to hear that song. That's a mouthful. How can you cram that many words into one song? I didn't think Charlie was against a toke back in the day. At least as I remember. But, people change. I'll look it up on youtube just for fun.

Here you go, Scat:
Simple Man CDB

So what is this, we all going to add some song lyrics (LOL)? Well, when I was young, my friends and my "Theme song" was CDB's "Long Haired Country Boy." We sang it at dances, parties, the prom, and wedding receptions. How could that have been so long ago?

"Long Haired Country Boy"

People say I'm no good, and crazy as a loon
'Cause I get stoned in the mornin', I get drunk in the afternoon
Kinda like my old blue tick hound, I like to lay around in the shade
And I ain't got no money, but I damn sure got it made

'Cause I ain't askin' nobody for nothin'
If I can't get it on my own
If you don't like the way I'm livin'
You just leave this long haired country boy alone

Preacher man talking on TV, puttin' down the rock and roll
Wants me to send a donation, 'cause he's worried about my soul
He said, "Jesus walked on the water.", and I know that it's true
But sometimes I think that preacher man, would like to do a little walkin' too

But I ain't askin' nobody for nothin'
If I can't get it on my own
If you don't like the way I'm livin'
You just leave this long haired country boy alone

A poor girl wants to marry, a rich girl wants to flirt
A rich man goes to college, a poor man goes to work
A drunkard wants another drink of wine, and a politician wants your vote
I don't want much of nothing at all, but I will take another toke

'Cause I ain't asking nobody for nothin'
If I can't get it on my own
If you don't like the way I'm livin'
You just leave this long haired country boy alone

Long Haired Country Boy CDB

BTW, if you're interested, here's an old picture of THIS "Long haired country boy" circa 1979

Yeah, that's what I mean. In 79 he was getting stoned in the morning and drunk in the afternoon, like the rest of us honest Americans, now he's down on that. Well, at least I stayed loyal to my roots. But old Charlie may have been exposed to a whole lot more than I have. So after you've had all that fun you can preach. Ok Chuck. Chuck you.
Nice pic. I like your hat.

Ozarkpaddler, I think the intent is to list a song that isn't just one you like, but one that expresses the way you live your life - your guiding light so to speak. At least that's the way I took it.

I can assure you, when I penned this takeoff of the Jefferson Airplane song, my only motivation was that I was pissed off about work, I was fairly buzzed, and I really like that song. I just used the cancer angle to make it easier. I think I meant to express that I am no longer ill, but being well may be harder than being sick. Reality being what it is. And it sounds better if you are a fighter, not a quitter, resigned to his fate, with no chance of ever climbing out of the hole he has stepped into. Like the hungry beetle searching for a morsel that falls in the spider hole in the desert. Climbing, scratching, clawing, but getting nowhere till finally the venemous spider crawls in and puts the poor ambitious beetle out of it's misery. Perhaps it is better to fight and lose, than to never know the sting of battle. But it's even better when you win!

It wouldn't be the first time and wouldn't be the last time I misunderstood something (LOL). But that song WAS "Me" during that time, except for the "Stoned" part. I did drink, sometimes too much. Didn't care what other people thought. I worked hard, but liked my leisure time too. And my hair was a bit too long at times. My friends were all pretty much the same as me. Our parties were always out in the country. So, "Long Haired Country Boy" was our anthem.
