I have been in different newspapers and TV clips many times in my career, but this time the media actually were quite close to reporting what I said.

Hey Linden, its good to be retired isn't it? Just think, no more breathing smoke for days on end, no more 24 or 36 or even a 60 hour shifts once in a while. No more fire camp food, no more mop-up in the middle of the night, while still wet from getting hit by retardant drops during the day. No more getting to bed at 10 at night just to be toned out and have to drive all night to get to the next fire. No more eating rations out of the engine when you don't get relieved on time. Damn, after 17 years I guess I still miss all that!!!
Linden, Very nice article.
Good luck, and again, thanks for your service. Larry

The man who ran to the flames when everyone else ran from them has earned a long, happy retirement.

Excellent! Thank you for your exemplary service. I always applaud all military, police and firefighters. They make a civil society possible and should receive the respect and honor that they are due.

Congrats on retirement -
And I see they noted your wife as Krista Arneson. I knew a Krista years ago through Camp Fire - Columbia Heights, MN. I directed Camp Tanadoona for Camp Fire. Same gal???

Wow. What a coincidence, yep it's the same girl, her parents owned the Pine Cone tree nursery off of US Hwy 10 near Ramsey I think. She went to campfire girls.

My biggest claim to firefighting media fame was when a Chicago news traffic copter filmed me live on the roof of an apartment fire. I had just finished cutting the ventilation hole and was working to punch out the ceiling. Our bunker gear had our last names on the back flap, which was pointed towards the sky at the time...

Just curious, to see if tradition is the same back there as it is out here. If you are on the news, picture or interviewed, do you have to buy ice cream for the rest of the crew?

What's cool about this site is that when someone has a question or a opinion on a subject, we generally have expert to educate us.

We had to buy beers where I worked, and i lived up to my end of that bargian, but my crew members rarely did when they made it in the news.
