I watched all four Illinois high school championship games yesterday. I always watch all eight games every year. Just sat down to watch John Gillespie's Waters and Woods show, then all four games today. Amazing talent on display. Forget the NFL, this is fun football to watch. There was a kid on IC Catholic in class 3A that was the closest thing to Gale Sayers I ever saw. This guy had moves on top of moves. And he was blazing fast in the open field. Several times he left half the defense on the ground in his wake with his cuts. Guys trying to tackle him would run into each other and knock each other down while he scooted past them. They were up 28-0 and I was going to jump to the 4a game because I recorded them, but I couldn't turn away because this kid might do something else spectacular, which he did. Over and over. Unreal. A lot of great players, and these four games were the little schools. Absolutely a joy to watch. Only downer is I ate all my leftover turkey yesterday. Should have taken more. Bad move. I could go for a turkey sandwich right now. Enjoy the games. Great stuff.

The 5a game just started and features Dunlap vs Phillips high scool. I've never heard of Dunlap, but Phillips is a school from the Chicago public school system. They won in 4a two years ago, then requested to be moved up for more of a challenge. The significance of Phillps being a perennial player for the state championship is that they are from the Chicago Public league. It was almost unheard of before they came to prominence. One of their running backs has 32 TDs for the year. Another guy has 31 sacks. 31 sacks in one year up till today! I am in the St. Viator high school hall of fame for defensive end and I would be surprised if I had five sacks all year. I do remember chasing guys around a lot , but 31 sacks! They must have a great coach. Probably doing some recruiting too. Like guys transferring into the neighborhood on paper only. Supposedly living with an uncle. Shouldn't be so cynical I know. But it is what it is. Let the children play. Phillips has an enrollment size of a 3a school, is playing in the 5a class, and in the first game of the year beat Loyola, a class 8a powerhouse who is playing in the championship game this year in 8a. This should be a track meet. Cheers.

Do they play while canoeing in the wilderness? Just curious Piney, but why do you post stuff like this here? I really want to know your motives for posting so many unrelated topics. Do you ever think the vast majority of members come here for wilderness canoeing info? Please stop polluting the site with inane crap.

That's hilarious. Take a look at the forum titles and see how many have nothing to do with canoeing. About most. One of the stupidests post I've ever seen here. You saw the title, if you don't like it, why look at it. Go to the gear section and argue with someone about the best belt buckle if you need to be ornery. This thread is about high school state champion football games. Or maybe you missed the title.

Well thanks for brighting my day I am sorry you had to read it.

Got some cranky MFers around here. Some clearly take things a bit too seriously. Begs the question which is more 'inane', asking about something that may not be on other's radar, or taking the time to complain about it?

And, to be sure, the irony is not lost on me.

I caught some of most of the games between watching and working a hockey tournament. Too bad so many of the games were blowouts. I'm a fan of the high school state tournaments. I enjoy seeing the athletes chase their dreams and the support of the communities. As a football coach myself I enjoy seeing the talent, the different offenses/defenses, and the variety in the small school and big school programs.

High school football is the best. We had some great games in Illinois. I watch all eight of them every year. No work on the Friday after Thanksgiving. That is reserved for leftovers and the games. Long may it last.

Life is inane. I feel pressure on my brain. I have a fondness for wolfbane. And raising Cain. I fear she was a Dane. But dare I feign? What can I gain? Is that my friend Jane? Strolling down the lane? Sporting a lion's mane? That's insane. What a pain. In Duquesne, it rained a hard rain. Not like in Spain. I like trains. And weather vanes. My attention is starting to wane. Yesterday I met a girl from the planet Xane. Her name was Zane. This is past inane. Such is life.
Cheers.

Youngest daughter's boyfriend is (was? graduating senior) the qb for Apple Valley. Finally got to see US Bank Stadium last week when they played Elk River in the quarter finals. AV put up over 500 yards and scored 40 points...and lost! Elk ran for 701 yards. Did not think Owatonna could stop that offense last night, but they did. Was hoping to see Minnetonka upset Eden Prairie, but that did not happen.

Piney, I read it since it was NOT labeled "off topic" as requested by site management. I have checked the the "don't show off topic posts" in my profile, yet your unrelated crap still appears. Please answer my question. Why do you think people in 49 states give a damn about MN high school football posted on a wilderness canoeing forum?

It would of been best if I let it slide but you kind of demanded a answer.

I didn't want to reply because nothing is positive and really noting will be gained by me replying, but you did a personnel attack on me with Vulgar language which serves zero purpose anytime on this forum against anyone.

Please make a list of My topic subject posts I shouldn't post I made so it will meet your criteria in the future?
Go thru all the General discussion list from my postings and Others so we can improve this forum.

Please make a list of do's and don't to meet your criteria. Maybe people like me who love the outdoors in a wide variety of ways shouldn't post unless cleared by you.

Please make a list of my posting you don't like so I can better serve this forum and your criteria.

Yes this football topic it should of been marked off topic I agree.
My apology my mistake. Yes I try to limit it mainly to outdoor topics. Yes a simple note of mark off topic would of sufficed but you came out with guns ablazing with on called language which only demeans you,not only once but twice.

Posts like deer hunting and outdoor posts are to share interests maybe like sitting around a campfire and bonding and getting to know one another. What are your interests? Yes we all sway outside the topic agenda some, but it shows common bonding between various people who have similar values and likes.

Yes many posts by many people are outside the BWCA forum but were people and it is nice to share things now and than within reason. Yes it shows a kind of bonding and Friendship some want.

Yes 90% of recent posts in General discussion of the last 100 posts by numerous Authors has nothing to do with Paddling. Did you attack them also or are you on a Personnel Irate. If your sincere you will go thru all of them and edit them and notify all people who authored those posts and replied to those posts so we can streamline our thoughts to the BWCA only and make it a better forum. Which we all want. Only posts with the mention of a paddle,a canoe or a campfire strictly in the BWCA should be allowed.

Yes I posted this football event because many of these kids and parents go to the BWCA and shows we were proud of the young Adults achievements and hopefully continue with their multi interests of the BWCA and others endeavers in life. It shows we care.

Yes maybe we all go too far sometimes. I like the forum settup the way it is and it is very balanced. Yes changes could be made, but how and for whom and by whom? I am not qualified.

Thank you for the apology.

Vulgar language? Please specify.

Make a list about the Iditarod, climbing Mt Kenai, the Beargrease dog sled race, stolen deer stands, etc., etc.? No thanks. I have a life.

However, I do like your criticism of our current political situation. :-) May we cling to that we agree on?

You don't like football, but like politics? One of the most beautiful things about football is, when you step inside those white lines, it doesn't matter who you think you are, how much money you make, what your rank is in your company etc., you better be ready to play, because all that other crap means nothing then. Politics ain't got nothin to do with it. You've got nowhere to hide bro. I played till I was 39, and ran into plenty of rough dudes along the way. The law of the jungle is the truest law of all. It doesn't lie. It can't lie. Screw politics.

Well, I had to check in to this thread after Spartan1 told me AndySG had arrived with guns a-blazin' because it wasn't marked OT. I hadn't looked before that, since I didn't think Minnesota HS football would be right up my alley, and I thought the thread was clearly marked as such. ;-)

Same with "Goodbye David Cassidy". That didn't interest me a whit, so I didn't stop in there either until today. It wasn't marked OT either, but I see it doesn't seem to bother AndySG the same way. Must be he is a David Cassidy fan.

I have made the mistake, Pinetree, of starting a thread that is obviously off topic and then realizing that I didn't mark it with the little OT box. Oops! If you go back and try to edit later and do that, it won't let you do it. You are then screwed, and open to all of the comments by the people who have set up their profiles to avoid all of the OT-marked threads. Sigh.

Our local Jackson Lumen Christi football team won the state Division 1 Championship in Michigan for the second year in a row. I am sure none of you care, but I thought I should make a comment on the topic. :-) (Well, at least on high school football, if not Minnesota.)

There is always politics--who starts, who plays where, how much playing time, who gets cut, etc......

That's right old timer, occasional OT posts don't bother me, but folks who constantly post BS content on this site as if its their personal facebook page, bugs the ever loving crap out of me. Please post about your football team on a college sports forum. Who knows, you might learn something more than posting on a wilderness canoeing site. Sheesh!

Time to just let it go,
like I said about 85-90%% of the last 100 posting on General discussion don't concern canoeing, but is like bonding a friendship with people(hey we got common interests-great) whom have a common interest of canoeing-camping,but it is always nice to hear what else various canoe-campers like. Like sitting around the campfire and discussing what interests you. I have no interests in post like concerts etc.,but some do,I just don't open them or maybe if I do I learn something. Sometimes the most helpful person in the BWCA forum in helping the canoeing-camping end like to have a change and a little spice of life with a little different talk agenda.

I also think in the long run for most people(no not all) it keeps them interested in blogging into the forum year around.
I see other forum strictly one item forums usually last a few years than there done. It seems like the format and the moderators do a great job here.

Yes hopefully the majority are related to the BWCA-camping etc. I personally like to hear anything environmental related.

Its interesting to seem how many people reply to a post,it shows a common interest and during the off-season it keeps the fire going and interest in this forum.
Yes the off-topic slot is there for a reason and i will try using, but also if it mentions like football,Vikings,Packers or Super Bowl it definitely is off topic and doesn't need to be opened if you don't desire.
Open discussion topics at times is great if everybody learns a little bit. Yes maybe we could moderate our topics at times.
