This week's show is an ice fishing trip in Ely. Very entertaining. One of my favs, and I've seen them all for the last four years at least.

I have to hand it to him, he has a show every week, which I was told he takes great pride in. He fishes in all kinds of weather, which I think sometimes his guides would rather not, and he catches a lot of nice fish. This year especially. Some of those musky trips were sick.

This Ely show was really fun to watch. A lot of different elements. Four wheeling in, the way they set up, the actual catching, some nice fat pike, panfish, the characters, not the least being his cute daughter Blake, and him extolling the virtues of the Ely area several times.

And the thought occurred to me, this is how to sell the area. Not bitching about a mine. Be positive, have fun. Grand job Gillespie!

Totally agree and those musky trips were crazy. Makes me wonder how fun basswood would be during the Cisco spawn.

Entertaining, but down right stupid to have four wheelers on the ice with only a few inches... especially when you consider he has kids with him. Dumb dumb dumb

5-6" plenty safe for a 4 wheeler. That's what they said they tested, before entering.

Maybe so, but when we constantly have had freeze then thaw temps this year, it doesn't make for good ice. I wouldn't trust it, and certainly wouldn't bring my kids on it. I'm guessing he filmed this within a day or so of those two people dying on Red Lake when their wheeler went through.

I don't know for sure what kind of ice they were on but the weekend of Thanksgiving I found a solid 8 inches on a 400+ acre lake. They even state that they check the ice before bringing any equipment out on to it.

I enjoy John Gillespie. He can be a little over the top with his product plugs, but that's part of the charm. Did not know about the Ely show, and will have to check it out! Thanks for the post!
