Hi, I'm planning on going in at south Kawishiwi after Christmas and was hoping to catch some walleye. I'm very successful with walleyes in the summer but have not had much experience on locating walleyes on a random lake in the winter.
I don't necessarily needs spots, but what types of structure do people target when going to a new lake? I was thinking deep holes near structure but as previously stated, I don't really know what I'm doing.
Pretty sure I can catch crappies on my route but would really enjoy some walleye.
Look for classic structure like humps. Drill lots of holes; just like in open water, they could be deep or shallow. Tucked in tight at the base of a drop-off is a good place to start. Midwinter is always tough. First and last light will be best by far.
