Since it is ice season, canoes are mostly stored. How many of you do your packing off of a list to make sure you don't forget anything? Lately, in the last few years, I just have my same old stuff in a tub. It saves me having to go off of a list. Gets routine after 35+ trips or more, I really lost count.

Too bad all the stuff does not fit in a tub. I have a vacated "kid bedroom" (they leave and I take over) and a 4 x 8 shelf for tents and big stuff. I have lists for my list - number of people - base or travel..... Yup, I love spreadsheets!

Same here, but my wife has lists from her teens and every trip since.
When she goes with me I don't have to want for anything (but its still lightweight double portaging).
Me, I just throw things in (except food) and I can't remember forgetting sonething that I could not live without.

Here is my wife's list from our 2011 week long trip into Insula and Alice.
It looks long, but we double portaged with a heavy Alumicraft.
Not all things on the list were for our canoe trip.
Some were for the two days we car camped before our trip.

I do not take near this much stuff when I solo.

Welcome to the wonderful world of serendipity! Never had to use a list, now old enough to forget much. Improvise! A whole new aspect of tripping to an old sod.

Forgot my canoe yoke, rented one. Forgot the dehydrated meats for my meals, went vegi and REALLY ENJOYED that 1st cheeseburger when out! Forgot not to turn around backward in a solo canoe, got wet. Did not check the condition of my favorite flask, dumped out some nasty single malt scotch. And many other instances.

I'm still kicking around looking forward to the next adventure. Still pack right off a set of shelves (my version of tubs), no list.

all my gear is in one closest space, so it's really easy. the smaller items are in the tubs. when i pack for two, wife and i, then i pay more attention to what i am grabbing, more comfort stuff.

I pack off a list for every trip. If I print the list I can run a highliter through the item when it’s packed. I do update the list as soon as I get home what not to bring or what more to bring. List stays on my phone so I can review and add to list as I think of it.

Without a list the anxiety of fretting about forgetting something would eat me alive! I maintain one list, then adjust depending on how long, who, and how many are coming along, and how many I'm outfitting.

I always use a list even though I have all of my gear stored in one corner of the room. There are things beside gear though, like food and clothes, etc...... I typically put everything in one room before I go and check the list off.

I like to work off a list as well. I iterate - when I get home, I review the list, and make comments when the trip is still fresh in my mind. Then, when building next years list, I start with last years and use the remarks to adjust to the previous experience.

It's fun looking back at them year over year, especially around this time when you need a little escape.

A list man here. With family, grandkids, scout groups, car camping, canoe camping, rv camping, I gotta have lists that I have to tweak for the occasion. Sometimes I don't pay close enough attention and gloss over it...then discover I forgot something....not good then

Ultimate canoe checklist this list was published in The Boundary Waters Journal many years ago it is quite extensive and I use it for reference when I pack for my trips.

We still use lists to pack no matter the trip. I have lists for backpacking, canoe trips, and snowshoeing trips. Also for car camping and winter camping trips.

I keep mine in the “notes” of my phone because I find it really easy to add or delete things on the fly. I’ve got a solo list and a group list, but that’s it. There’s obviously some no-Brainers that aren’t on the list, but this list helps because my gear is all over the place as items are getting pulled all of the time for State Park trips, picnic adventures and hiking stuff. I usually dirtbag it in the truck the night before, so the cooler stays in the truck and is used to keep breakfast food for the morning of entry and beer for when we exit (although the beer is rarely cold by the time we get back, but nobody complains). I’ve marked “delete” on some things. I haven’t hung my food pack in the last 4 or 5 years so no sense in carrying all that rope and pulley. I haven’t brought a landing net in a while either, my dad still gives me a hard time about that one.

I've made my own lists, one for summer and one for winter, and they get updated usually after every trip. I organize the items on the list by which bag they go in. Note; not everything on my list gets taken along - I sometimes leave things behind but by having it on the list it gets considered. My Tent bag has my tent and all the items for in the tent, so it goes straight to the tent pad I select. My Camp bag goes wherever the tarp is going to go.

I could never use a tub strategy as too many items get reused regularly in other activities.

My wife mocks my color coded excel spreadsheets for backpacking and BW trips. Backpacking one has weights beside all items and calculates the baseweight (no food, water, or fuel included) for the trip. BW list morphs every year, but has everything from food quantities to fishing gear to clothing to camp supplies. Couldn't pack efficiently without it, and it also allows me to modify the spreadsheet / add notes for next year's spreadsheet when I get home from a trip: what foods / gear / tackle were needed or not. I also track my costs for the trip on this spreadsheet, allowing me to charge the guys I take with me the appropriate amount.....fuel, tolls, permits, food, camp supplies, bait, etc.

Always (well, almost always) use a list. Different lists for summer, shoulder seasons, and winter. Lists also differ depending on type of trip: backpacking, canoeing, kayaking, dog sled, etc. Is this a "birdy" trip (meaning I really don't have a schedule or destination, but am just meandering and enjoying the woods and water) or am I more interested in making miles. And while I use a list to help keep from forgetting things, but also to keep me from packing stuff I don't need or don't use.

I can see how much each pack will weigh and add/remove gear accordingly. You can check off the items on the packing list online as well. I won't share my master list because it would reveal to everyone just how bad my gear problem is, but the site is an invaluable tool for me.
