Last spring I was on Ensign lake for a few days hoping to hit the top water bite for Smallies, didn't happen, anyway one day I did get into some with a black wacky worm on a small walleye live bait size. I caught about a dozen and 4-5 of them swallowed the hook, they were hitting the worm on the drop and I couldn't feel a thing just saw the line going sideways and by that time the hook was way deep. I had to cut the line and I'm concerned about how many of them lived, after the 5th one I stopped using that rig. My question is would a circle hook have worked?? A couple were hooked so deep I couldn't even see the hook, I kept them and gave them to some boy scouts that were having even worse luck than me. Thanks in advance. FRED
Grant me the senility to forget the people I never liked, the good fourtune to remember the ones do, and the eyesight to tell the differance.
I have not used a circle hook while using senkos/soft plastics, but I've used them extensively while chasing walleyes, catfish, and pike. I don't see why it wouldn't work when using softplastics.
The hard part for me is getting over the inclination to set the hook. Just reel down and apply a steady pressure...or don't trust me and watch some Youtube videos on it. I don't remember a fish guthooked on them, so it's worked well so far.
