Have used Sterno and Mautz Fire Paste, as well as methanol and ethanol stove fuels.
Sterno and Mautz will leave some residue on the pot, neither will flow at common temperatures. Sterno and liquid alcohol cost about $8 a quart/32 ounces.
Swiss Fire Gel is twice the cost, and could be considered liquid because it flows. It's status as a gel is debatable with USFS designations and need to be answered authoritatively.
No gel will work well if at all in ported or wick feed stoves. If in a fire ban situation I'd just use Sterno instead of a liquid alky stove. Far as priming a liquid gas/kero stove, I'd keep using liquid alky fuel because it burns cleaner.
