Looking at the Osprey Transporter 130 as a possible portage pack. Anyone have an opinion? Also, are the used packs offered for sale by outfitters in generally good condition or are they worn out?

That is a massive duffel bag; far too large for me to consider. Generally you will find people here favoring canoe specific portage packs. From what I've seen at various outfitters, their used packs vary but can be in very good condition with lots of life left in them. Just call them and they will be honest in their assessment.

E bay and the for sale or wanted section on this site are another couple of options for used packs.

Bought a couple packs off ebay earlier today and called an outfitter about their used packs but they didn't have the pack I wanted. Was a little reluctant in both cases to buy sight unseen but took the plunge anyway. In my OP I specifically mentioned the Transporter 130 but they do have smaller packs of the same size. Just wondered about the quality. Osprey is a good brand but canoe camping presents special requirements so I'll stick with proven stuff. Thanks
