I want to try a hike in the BWCA. Been canoeing it for 17 years, but I want to try something different. Is there a forum for good hikes or does anyone have and recomendations I have wanted to do the Powwow trail, but I have heard that it isn't as accesible as it used to be, due to the fire in the area and blowdown. Not a super seasoned navigator on foot so I don't think I want to risk navigating the Powwow in its current condition.

If you'd like to start your own private forum on hiking the BW, you're certainly able to do that. However, with a very, very small target audience, I think interest would die off fairly fast. I would suggest doing just as you did... ask your questions here on the General Discussion page in order to get the highest number of possible responders.

Personally I would do the Superior Hiking Trail.
I have done parts of the Pow Wow and Superior Hiking Trails and prefer the SHT.
Its more scenic and has better maintained trails, there is also a SHT forum and a book on the trail that will be able to answer many of your questions.
Either way have an awesome hike.

There is also the Kek trail. It has campsites on lakes in the BW.

Absolutely LOVE the Superior Hiking Trail. I'm in the midst of section hiking the whole thing.

Also - over on You Tube Shug is pretty popular among the hikers.

Here are his Kek/Snowbank Trail trails.

Sioux Hustler Trail

Caribou Trail to the Border Route Trail

Oh he has tons of videos if you're looking to just check it out. He gives LOADS of advice on his Vlog.

You could try the Border Route Trail. Starts where the Superior Hiking Trail ends and then goes all the way to Gunflint Lake. Passes by Clearwater, Pine and all the lakes along the border. It is a different way of seeing the Boundary Waters.

Something different could also include somewhere different.

Isle Royale and Porcupine Mountain Wilderness are exceptional backpacking destinations. Both offer a more isolated experience than the SHT but have comparably maintained trails.

Porcupine Mountain Wilderness is the more accessible of the two and offers waterfalls.

Isle Royale requires a ferry or seaplane ride but is the better trip for that reason alone. I love the anticipation and swelling excitement as I get nearer the island.

Tons of hiking info out there regarding these destinations. I think the comparatively lesser info available regarding BWCA hiking might be telling regarding the attractiveness of the hiking experience.

Good Luck
