I have this old map of Ensign made by Lakemaps. It has a copyright of 1997. I haven't had any luck googling it. The map is plastic. I bought it in Ely a few years ago and was hoping to find more of them for other BWCA lakes. I use Fishers and McKenzies for my main maps up there. But I kind of like these for their lake contour info and mostly for the novelty of them. Does anyone know if they can be bought online?

I posted a search for those 'lakemaps' not too long ago. I have one of Brule Lake. No online source. You will find them at Voyageur North Outfitter in Ely, MN as an in-store purchase. Probably other vendors carry 'em but VNO is one. If you know the particular lake(s) you seek, give 'em a call for a mail order. Apparently, they have too many in stock to list over the phone.

I believe that's where I got it years ago. I'm headed up there in a few weeks for winterfest and I'm staying at VNO. I'll check it out to see what they have.

they can not be purchased on-line. some of the maps had a phone number and/or address along the border/edge. we did a lot of research finding the company since the 800 number on the map was no longer in service, the address also no good. eventually found the right guy who sent us an order form. didn't seem like he was too keen on keeping up with the business. i no longer work at the place that ordered the maps so don't have access to that info.

jwartman59: " Minnesota dnr lakefinder
This site has lake depth maps of a large portion on Minnesota lakes..."
Agreed. LakeMaps and DNR Lakefinder use identical sources for their images. Go out to Lakefinder, find your lake, edit in your favorite graphics program, print, laminate.
Compare this image with your LakeMap of Ensign. (Save-As and zoom in...)
Of course, for novelty's sake, pick up the plastic ones the next time you're in Ely but the pdf files can be printed larger for greater detail while out on the water.
