I am going to the BWCA mid February and am trying to figure out the best way to go about sleeping. I have a 20 degree bag and was wondering if I got a warm liner for it plus having two foam pads(r of 2.6) and maybe an inflatable pad(r of 1.5). Am I comming up short on this?

Yes, a few things to consider that sleeping bag liners always over estimate the added warmth they add, that your temp rating on your bag is it’s survival rating and your pads even need upgrading you need to do a lot of work.

For example, my sleeping pad has an R rating of 8 and I usually have several more closed cell pads under me plus a reflective blanket under all that.

My sleeping bag has a -20 rating and I usually have a second along to stuff inside that.

Granted you might run into warm weather and get away with your setup. But do you really want to risk being cold on a trip after you’ve done all that work to get up north?

Go rent a winter bag that is for colder temperatures than what yours is rated at. Several of the Outfitters up that wayvrebt winte Gear and hot tents and toboggans.

If want you could always bring your 20 degree bag and stuff it inside or drape it over the other bag. Even try it out like you mentioned and see how warm it is. Let us know how it works out.

Have a great trip.
