I live in ohio. was 25 F yesterday when I took the picture. earlier in the day was -8 F. I was thinking it could be a mole, but isn't that too cold for a mole? what do you all think?

Considering how it seems to not have a beginning or end I'd say it's some type of bird. Just my un-professional guess.

Those are Vole runs. Vole, not Mole.

Yup, voles is what I'd guess too. You could very well end up finding a similarly cut path in your grass come the next time the snow melts.

Voles or field mice. They make lots of tunnels under the ice and snow.

Those are the infamous tracks of a Vole. You will have big fun getting rid of those nasty critters. I had them and they tore up my lawn. They are looking for a meal of grubs and they dig and search for them. One of the things you will have to do in the spring is to treat your lawn to get rid of insects. Then you will have to try to kill them with traps. I found that after I removed the food source they moved on to better feeding ground, my neighbors.

Same temperature & conditions and in southcentral Ohio region........spotted something moving under crust of snow and discovered a mole tunneling. They are usually underground but the ground was concrete after days of single digit temps. It was gray to dark brown and about 6", with long nose, and paddled or webbed front feet. A mole. I am amazed at how these little critters can survive the brutal conditions.

Get those too here in Minnesota, like others said I think they are voles. They are active in the winter too.

Voles hate it when people leave unclosed quote tags.

That's why bigfoot are so damn hard to find. They don't even leave yellow snow behind when they take a leak. Sure are stealthy buggers.
