So, I recently read a small article in the Star Tribune about a book titled Border Country that looked really interesting and it brought to mind a wilderness author or explorer that I came across sometime over the past year or two that I just can't think of who it was and it's driving me crazy; and It's not Sigurd Olson. If you would please recommend or mention any books, wilderness authors and explorers etc I would greatly appreciate it. I'm open to all suggestions hoping it leads me to the person I'm trying to think of...

Thanks

And which one of Sigurds many books would you recommend?

Want a Great read- Get A Wonderful Country By Bill Maggie. It is in the time era of 1920-40's. To me it is a must have for BWCA people. Lot of history and well written.
Things like when there was no road to Saganaga and they paddled from Ely. Too many logs in Birch lake from logging they get portaged around by horses from the logging. Aluminum canoes come on the scene in 1947.

On your second question I would recommend Listening Point.

I just received that book (Border Country: The Northwoods Canoe Journals of Howard Greene 1906-1916) from my father-in-law for Christmas. Haven't had time to read much of it, but seems interesting. Love all the old photos and drawings included.

Sam Cook? I have several of his books of short stories.

Michael Furtman? "A Season for Wilderness" is one of my favorites.

Bob Cary? Originally from IL, but has several books including "Rootbeer Lady" and "Tales from Jackpine Bob" that I've enjoyed.

I'm certain it wouldn't have been Justine Kerfoot, you couldn't forget her. She too is originally from IL but moved to MN early in life.

Chips from a Wilderness Log is very good if you can still buy it. A must in his collection. Guiding in the BWCA-Quetico in the 20's and Rutstrums recollections. Very good.
