I spent a considerable amount of time with Alex. He helped me restore my old wooden canoe. He's very good at what he does. His canoes are gorgeous. I first met him when I took a paddle making class at the Wooden Canoe Heritage Museum in Spooner. I went into that class with no wood working experience and came out with a gorgeous paddle. The thing with him is he will guide you in whatever you are building, but you will be doing the work. When I restored my canoe, he showed me how to do each step and was there for any help I needed. But all the while, he was working on his own projects. So I can proudly say that I did the restoration. I didn't just pay to have someone do it for me. I DID IT! This, in my opinion, makes the project and the accomplishment that much sweeter. I think you will enjoy any class you take with him and you will end up with a beautiful paddle or canoe or whatever you build.

I picked up a 16’ prospector from Stewart River on my way to BWCA. My dog and have paddled all over in that boat, including Class III and is still going strong. My pup is getting too old for long portage laden trips so I’m considering a Stewart River Traveler for solo trips. He gave me some good trip advice too as I didn’t really have much of a planned route. Very responsive when I needed some minor repair or touch advice too.
My canoe can beat up your kayak.
