I rarely paddle the Eastern section BWCAW . . . but considering a September trip. Is there a lot of fire damage from Seagull through Jasper & Ogishkemuncie? Is fishing decent in the fall in these parts?

There is extensive evidence of the fire in that area. And while large mature trees are few and far between, in my opinion, things have greened up quite nicely the last few years.

Fishing can be quite good on Alpine. And be sure to fish the pools below the rapids you'll encounter along the way.

Here's our trip through that area from a few years back. (Ogish - Sea Gull section is towards end of report. )

We did Seagull/Alpine/Red Rock last year in early June. Everything was green, but obviously the flora maturity is lacking. Still saw plentiful wildlife, and once we found the fish it was a hot bite.

We fished the falls coming into Alpine three times, and never had good luck. That was until we tried a sunset bite. Be at those falls at sunset, and you will have a good time.

as TB stated things are coming back and greener but evidence of the fire is noticeable especially on some islands. my group have done descent for fishing on seagull and jasper. pic of the palisades on seagull and long point campsite on west end. pics from may 2017

this just came to mind , i remember there was an island on seagull i nicked name deadman's island (early 90's), it must of had a lightning strike and we would catch fish in that area(thus the landmark name) and the rest of seagull green as can be, well now it's the greenest island while all the others a mostly burnt , mother nature ;)
