We will be there. Mark (HansSolo) has already contacted Angelo's about dinner this year. I will check with him. I will bring name tags. Plan on ordering our TCteardrop camper when we are there.

We were planning to go and really looking forward to it, but I have now been scheduled for my hip replacement surgery on March 5th, so we won't get to go this year. I am in severe pain and have been for a long time, so I am very glad to get this surgery done.

Got our reservation for East town suites already.. Haven't checked the website to see if can pre-order wrist bands yet. Famous Dave's on Saturday nite has become a favorite for us... I imagine the canoecopia Gazette will be showing up sometime...

Every year I say "Maybe next year?" Planned on it, but with a couple concerts in April, Ozark Rendezvous in May, BWCAW trip in June, there's only so much vacation time.....

GirlOnARock: "Who’s going?! I plan to be there. Looking for a new paddle and good times with friends from this site! Any word on the annual dinner in the works? Party and catch all room, Suncatcher and Izzy?"
As Dave (Canoe42) mentioned, I've booked "The Grotto" at Angelo's for the bwca.com dinner. I also reserved two Suites at the Clarion for whole Solo Clan as well.
Additionally, I've exchanged texts with Paul (SunCatcher) a few weeks ago and he hasn't talked to Izzy yet, but he was trying to make it this year.
I will post the detailed information about the dinner at Angelo's ASAP!

Canoe42: "I received a text from Suncatcher last night. He will not be making it this year."
That's unfortunate, but not too surprising. Sun Catcher seemed somewhat tentative when we communicated last. We'll just need to carry-on without Nebraska's favorite son.

Right now online Rutabaga has the Canoecopia Wrist Bands on sale. $13/day or $23/weekend. Excited to say I am going for the first time. I'm lucky to have the always great Midwest Mountaineering Expo right here in the Twin Cities but Canoecopia has been on my wish list for years.

LOL, good idea!

Wick: "i see that Madison is a big town? Are there close rooms to stay at? We have never been there. I may have to drive a big dually truck. It sucks in the city to drive and park,,but it may have to be used."
Wick, access to hotels and parking at Canoecopia is a breeze! The best and most convenient lodging is the Clarion Suites, which is attached to the Alliant Center where Canoecopia is held. Clarion Suites is the preferred place to stay and you'll find many of the bwca.com faithful rooming there. The problem is that the Clarion also fills up fast.
The Clarion's pool, and some of the smaller banquet rooms, are used for some of the smaller presentations. There's plenty of parking for larger vehicles and several people who attend have trailers connected to their SUV's or trucks..
There's many other lodging options close by. The Sheridan is across the Street and within walking distance. The Hyatt Place downtown is very nice and they do offer shuttles to Canoecopia, but parking might be a problem. The Canoecopia website lists other places to stay; many with reduced rates for the event.
Wenonah and many of the other canoe & kayak companies that attend the show have rather large rigs with trailers and they generally park in the Alliant Center's lot. Access is easy too; the Alliant Center is on John Nolan Drive, right off of the 12-18 Belt-line.

What HansSolo said. The Clarion is the most convenient, being attached to the event center; I love being able to leave my coat in the room, bring my purchases back, be able to use a non-public washroom when I need to, not pay extra for parking, or just plain go back to the room for a rest if I need it. So that is the best option.
However, there are a few places within walking distance so you can still avoid the extra parking fee and be nearby. The Sheraton is pretty nice and has a restaurant (albeit no fridge in the room like the Clarion has). The Holiday Inn Express is new in the last few years - used to be where the Comfort Inn is now. You can walk from all of these (though being March, you'll likely need to bring your coat....the show might actually have a coat check for a fee, I'm not sure.).

Well, i got a room there. You have some good reasons to stay there. Is the parking outside? Parking garages and big dually trucks don’t fit together to well. I may have to fix the funny noise in my car i have been hearing and drive it.

No parking ramp at the Clarion, just an open parking. It can get somewhat crowed, but you shouldn't have a problem with your big truck.

Captn Tony: "Will be there Saturday. Any special place bwca.com people hang out, I would like to meet some of ya."
Besides Saturday nigh dinner (dinner thread) its pretty hit or miss. I haven't looked through sessions yet but I'll probably attend one or another most of the day. Pick a slot and announce you'll be somewhere - a session or a lunch table or an exhibitor - and you might get some to gather. Do the dinner if at all possible.

So I have a room at the Sheraton, but I am thinking about canceling and going air bnb. I found a place a mile away from the Alliant for less than half the price of the hotel.
I have never done the air bnb thing, and I am wondering if any of you have and what your thoughts are. Thanks!

We have done AirBnB many times. Even rented a huge apartment that slept 11 for our daughters wedding in Wyoming. Check Host's reviews. Never did the room thing. Always rented the whole unit. Have not had a bad experience yet. Saves a lot of money.

So, I cancelled my hotel room at the Sheraton and will be staying in the upstairs of someone's house. Two firsts for me; using AirBnB and Copia! And with the money I saved, I may just find a small toy for myself!!

I don't have enough vacation time to take off the weekend, but my friend Ranger Dave Tobey with Ozark National Scenic Riverways will be doing a presentation with Mart Koch. Marty's an excellent photographer. I'd kill to take pictures like he and Greg Hamer here! I think the presentation would be worth your while if you get a chance?

The short story line is I will not be there due to my family commitments.
CCS product most likely be there, but it has not been confirmed as of yet.
Canoecopia is a great event and if you can go I would recommend it. It is fun to be there, you meet so many people of like mind. It can be overwhelming-due to maybe never having seen so many good canoes , gear and good speakers. Cliff Jacobsons talks are epic, Kevin Callan will have you on the floor laughing so hard, Will Steger I hear will be in the Northstar booth, maybe even sporting a CCS cover on the canoe he will be doing a trip in, and many others.
There are only two events CCS has committed to at this time for this year.
One is the Far North canoeing event put on by the MN Canoe Association (Bob O'Hara)
Two, the event on the Gunflint trail to be held at Bearskin Lodge this June. For the Gunflint Trail event, Karen and I are able to do that event in a very relaxed way, and it is only a couple miles away from where we first met. It is a lot like going to your first home- the mid Gunflint trail; old guys like me get to reminisce about life when we 20 something.
The Midwest Spring Expo show I have not been in contact with them about the event as of yet. It is in my "backyard" so it is a much easier event as well.

Sorry to hear you won't be there Dan, but thanks for the update. One way or the other, I'm hoping there's a generous stock of your products at Canoecopia. I was intending to grab a short-torso Pioneer pack for the Mrs. and an additional 30L Quad Pack.
I sincerely hope you enjoy your other events. It difficult not to have a good time doing anything on the Gunflint Trail! :-)
Best regards Dan,
Hans Solo

YEE HAW, I planned my BWCAW trip to start after the BW Expo on the Gunflint, so I will get to meet the maker of my (and many of my friend's) wonderful tarp!

If anyone has a reservation at Clarion and plans to cancel at some point, please post it, as some of us will be calling periodically to see if anything opens up. As of right now (Sunday 6pm), there's nothing open. Thanks!

Check out airbnb. Lots of options, and much less expensive than traditional hotels.

The place I am at is about a mile away, and that is certainly walkable. Just checked, and there is a 1 bedroom apt. that claims to be blocks from the Alliant.

I'll be working the show again this year with the great full time Rutabaga staff. I'll be in the boat pickup area in the back, if you buy a boat at the show, I'm one of the lucky ones that get to carry your new baby through the crowd to your vehicle. Stop by and say hello, I'll have my BWCA.com hat on. And if you're having trouble deciding between the 30lb canoe and the 80lb kayak, go with the canoe for both our sakes ;)
