I'm wearing a pair of wool socks right now that I bought about 45 years ago. The elastic is utterly gone and they fit like muumuus, but they don't have a single hole. The wool socks I've bought the last few years from Amazon last a year or two. Pathetic.
I'm 61.5 and wondering where I buy some socks like the ones I'm wearing now, socks that I'll still be wearing on my death day, about 25 years, more or less, from now. Please lead me to my death socks!

Fits socks are my foot cover of choice. I wear Fits merino socks year round, each day, every day and I've had great luck with them. I buy at least one pair at Canoecopia every year. They keep their shape, give great support, wick away moisture well and don't become baggy. I buy both lightweight summer hikers and heavier winter hikers.

I buy the REI brand midweight merino hiker socks whenever they are on clearance. They seem to last year after year and I probably have more of them than anything else.

Darn Tough socks made in Vermont. Guaranteed for life to never wear out. They feel substantial. I wore out a bunch of SmartWool socks and I’m done with them. Northbound AT through hikers may almost get near your house before they turn them in for a free replacement. And their pairs are worn wet a lot.
I bought a pair of mountaineer knee highs that I am determined to wear out by walking 15 miles a day.

I wear nothing but wool socks every season every day. Have crew socks and the short ones for summer with capris. But I have lots of colors and lots of pairs (quite a few brand names, too) so they are rotated a regularly. Some of them I have had for twenty years or more and they don't show wear, although a few are getting thin at the heel (especially some Smartwool Cables). The one thinnest pair are Darn Tough.
One thing I never, ever do is put them in the dryer! I wash them with regular loads of clothes, but they always are dried on a drying rack. I am convinced that is the secret to long wear.
I am a sock junkie! A whole drawer of wool socks in every color, many styles. Always looking for new ones. Never have left Canoecopia without socks!

Another fan of Fits socks - I also wear them year round...to work, for hiking, running, paddling, skiing, snowshoeing, sleeping, hanging out. Not sure if they'll last 25 years since I just discovered them at Canoecopia a few years ago but I love them right now and my first pairs from 2014 still seem like new despite being worn a lot.

I'm a smartwool fan here. Held up to heavy backpacking in Alaska and Utah 2 summers in a row. Granted that's only 2 years, not 25, but so far they're holding up great and are comfier than Fits (in my opinion)
Of all the roads you take in life, make sure a few of them are dirt.

I went in for an injection in my spine awhile ago and all they let you keep on is your socks. I was wearing some "farm to feet" wool socks that I bought at Canoecopia (favorites of mine, actually) and the nurse got such a kick out of them. They say "farm to feet" on the arch where it can be read. Maybe I'll wear them when I go in for my hip surgery in three weeks. ;-) Always want the OR personnel to be in a good mood.

I'm a Wigwam sock guy. Made in Sheboygan where I grew-up, employed my grandmother in the 30's before she married, and has sponsored the WORS mountain bike race in Sheboygan for years. I'm not a blind loyalist--if they weren't good, I wouldn't touch them, but they make excellent socks AND are from my hometown, so that settles it for me.

Heheheh, I saw that title and thought "What the H..." (LOL)? I used to get mine from LL Bean and they lasted for years but even they eventually became threadbare. Interesting to read about all these durable brands. But for me, comfort and something that goes to either my lower ankle or all the way to my knee trumps lifetime durability since I have a little edema issue at times. I've converted to these from Duluth Trading Company. I'm on my feet at work sometimes 16 hours plus a couple hours to drive home. So if you need support and comfort these are what I would recommend. They may seem "Pricey," but not much more than Dr. Scholls et al compression socks and these are durable, wool socks. Mine are a couple years old and are still in great shape. If you watch for sales, you can save a few bucks too,

Darn tough socks it is and I hope the mortician admires them.
If they're as tough as all y'all claim, the undertaker might slip them off my feet and onto hers, saying, "These still have plenty of life in them, unlike you, my dear."

One nice thing about wool socks is that they don't stink, so I could actually see the undertaker taking advantage of you in your future predicament.
I started wearing wool socks about 5 years ago and I will never buy another pair of cotton socks as long as I live. Merino wool just has so many advantages over cotton. They don't stink, they wick moisture away from your feet, they keep your feet warm even when wet and at least for my Fits socks, they keep their shape forever. I am still wearing socks that I bought in 2014.
Wool rules.
