We all know that sometimes lures catch more people than fish. Have you been pleasantly surprised by any garage sale or clearance table lures? I was sorting/organizing tackle the other day and came across a reminder. A couple years ago I was at a garage/estate sale and saw a shoebox labeled " Cast/Troll/Ontario". It was full of assorted new lures for 5 bucks. I grabbed it. There were several "Flub Dub" crankbaits in there. Most were yellow/orange gold roach color. I was pleasantly surprised at Lake Erie that year and had good luck trolling/casting (no planer boards) in relatively shallow water around 15 ft. The flub dub has become a keeper for me, but yet to try it in canoe country. Can't wait.
If they had not been so cheap, I would probably not have bought them. I had thought about using them as gifts or stocking stuffers. I had never seen or heard of a 'flub dub'.
Any bargain find or unknown-to-you lures that you have picked up just because they were a cheap try?

Dang, those flub dub lures look good. They caught me. I will look for these.

Sometimes I find pike and bass hitting my bonefish and tarpon flies. They look like a minnow so I guess they look like dinner to them.

Same for their cousins the muskies. I've had them hit my spinning trolling motor blade twice - no such thing as a bucktail that's too big, apparently! And I've seen them hit a party balloon being used as a sucker float.

When I was a kid, probably around 12, I went fishing with my dad and uncle. When we were getting our bait I bought a bunch of lures/jigs that I thought looked good. We got in the boat and took off. When I reeled up once for a bait check my uncle started scolding me that I was wasting my time with my jig color and I needed to put something else on. He then looked at everything I bought and told me none of them would work and I wasted all my money. He was a firm believer that only black and chartreuse would work. Fast forward to that night and I went against his advice and tied on a parrot colored jig. I would drop it down, get a hit and reel up a walleye. I was the only one catching until they asked what I was using. With a big smile I showed them and told them I'd bought a few extra if they wanted to try. My dad took one and started catching fish right away. My uncle held out for a while but finally swallowed his pride and took one. It was awesome.

Maybe not exactly what the OP was looking for but it's what comes to mind and the story I have.
